closest i can think of is the controversy around "self deportations." what the obama campaign actually did was paint him as a plutocrat and ran a campaign well to the left how it actually governed.
i'm honestly pretty tired of the whole "nobody warned us about donnie trump and his sidekick jd" song and dance. the media reported it. that's how you know about it. at the end of the day it's not the media's job to do what should be the work of parties, organizations, and politicians.
i feel like a lot of people's media criticism works backwards from the idea that if the media *did* report on these things we wouldn't be in the situation.
“many prominent young republicans are actual Nazis” is a self-censoring fact at this point
normie swing voters will literally refuse to believe it and the media refuses to report it because it would call everything else they’ve done into question
while 'young republicans are literal nazis' is well known to folks here, the extent of it is surprisingly not that commonly known even in media and analyst circles, let alone normal people.
yeah. part of my thinking on this is that this is about all the things people say it's about, but it's also about young men's relationship to irreverence and impiety?
