this is how i want to hear every opposition politician talking

We have armed secret police kidnapping people off the street based on the color of their skin.

When we win: we will haul them before a Senate committee. The masks will come off. There will be consequences.

i disagree, because i was not aware, and i’d have liked to know!

the film just keeps opening up for me, which isn’t unusual with PTA. first time i saw Inherent Vice i thought it was fun, and now when i watch it, i cry.

🚨🚨🚨WA Governor Bob Ferguson responds to a letter he received from AG Pam Bondi in which she threatened to place him in jail. 🧯He is on fire! 1/2

last lines of the movie? “Be careful.” “I won’t.”

Willa has a false image of her mom as a hero. she then learns that her mother may have been “bad,” and finally she arrives at a nuanced view of her mom as someone to look up to for her aspirations if not the actual things she did.

i agree it’s critical, but i also think the story is one about aging and passing batons, and in that context the ego of youth is understandable and sympathetic to a point. Question is what we take away from that complex humanity. What’s gifted from it to the next generation.

what you get is a character who does a lot of things and makes a whole lot of decisions based on circumstances we’re given enough info to make assumptions about, but never enough for total clarity

this is done most literally when we don’t get to see the reason she first shoots the guard

will have my promised newsletter update about the movie out in the next few days (decided it needed a rewrite), but something unlocked for me in OBAA when i realized the prologue deliberately elides direct insight Perfidia’s motivations at literally every point

ocean waves, ocean waves

*though i think what’s going on with Perifida is significantly more complex than ego tripping

just saw OBAA for the second time. lost nothing from the first viewing. remain convinced ppl who say it doesn’t have clear or coherent politics are showing their ass. (hint: look to sensei - he is the movie’s brain and embodies a truly moral revolutionary, as opposed to perfidia’s ego tripping)

what i’m amazed by is that it played at all!

what Matthew fails to mention is not only do each of these need to be set separately, they need to be set for each input (there’s usually an option to apply settings to each input)

was just thinking about A House of Dynamite and got angry all over again. ugh.

i can’t believe they actually built a movie on the premise that another country would launch an unprovoked nuclear attack on America. and this is supposed to have a feeling of reality!

The quality of film discussions on here can be as good as, even better, than the discussions on X, but it's nowhere near that point yet. People are leery of joining a site that blasts you with politics 24/7.

Curated feeds are time-consuming and difficult to create, so please pin and share!

I added a lot of new movies to the 2025 Movies feeds overnight.

Remember, if you pin the feed, you have more of an effect on how high the post rises. You can also use Show More/Show Less to help me curate the feed.

it’s a question of whether Ellison can get a meaningful offer together before Zaslav goes through with splitting the company
