also, the Carlton is playing Jeanne Dielman for some reason, and you could do much worse than spending time with the best film ever made.
Plus - TOY STORY + live score at Meridian Hall, anime ANGEL'S EGG restored at Fox and Carlton, De Palma's SNAKE EYES, Akerman's JEANNE DIELMAN, Polanski's CHINATOWN, Verhoeven's TOTAL RECALL and THE USUAL SUSPECTS all play daily at Carlton. #toRep

oh my god, now he’s literally talking up Lee Kuan Yew for forcing everyone in Singapore into public housing and being a great model of liberalism! lmaooo, not a single consistent thought in this guy’s head

now now, *he* didn’t plagiarize, it was the guy he hired to do his work *for* him, under his name

this was part of his bit bashing Mamdani, on the premise that the left gets in its own way with 10-step processes, as though Mamdani doesn’t currently have Lina Khan searching for every conceivable loophole to get around bureaucracy and archaic laws, as though he isn’t also Abundance-pilled

also bugs the shit out of me that this guy will reference FDR as a great progressive figure, and then say shit like the *only* way to build housing at scale is through the market, like come on bro, you can’t possibly be the stupid, right?

guy references John Ganz’s “wonderful book,” and then goes on to make what are essentially arguments for a more genteel American fascism modelled on European clan-based social structures

thankfully not the only metaphor at work

outrageous to think the best option here is WB being sold to another cable company that also owns Universal
November 21, 2025 at 1:15 PM
nope, looks like one of the best releases ever on the format, honestly

it's especially good if you've got a nice surround sound setup

during the movie, i was thinking about how, thematically, the second act of Wicked is absolutely necessary, but because it starts bumping up against the narrative demands of its premise, it can never really hope to cohere dramatically

yeah, it’s really enjoyable and affecting, and those girls can sing!

massive bummer, honestly, because despite how ugly the first movie was, and how questionable some of the choices, i really liked the way it expanded the play into a Harry Potter-style fantasy movie. but still comes down to the drama in that section being stronger, and the songs being so much better.
