Updating the tracker and I came across this fascinating story of trans and/or non-binary trans life woven into the Catholic practices of Naples, Italy.

For the photo alone I felt like I had to share it - but it's fascinating throughout. From @apnews.com

Catholic rituals blend with Neapolitan folklore in pilgrimage for queer community
MERCOGLIANO, Italy (RNS) — The pews of the Church of the Annunziata in Mercogliano, a town just outside of Naples, were filled with guests wearing lacquered nails, towering wigs and heavy eyelashes.

Gah I found one of those "come back to the store in January with this envelope and win!" cards that I had forgotten about and couldn't use now, and I opened it and OF COURSE I would have won a $100 gift card

Notice how the popular media narrative has moved on, while people on the ground in Minneapolis are still struggling and crying out that things are as bad as ever. This is how fascist regimes operate — overreach, recalibration, normalization. Get louder, not quieter.

Faculty women work so hard to be paid, on a good day, the same as male counterparts. They strive to get appointments that mediocre male colleagues receive as if by natural born right. Undergirding the system of inequity is crap like this.
Yale prof David Gelernter defends his letter urging Epstein to hire "v small goodlooking blonde" student by saying that he was "keep[ing] the potential boss's habits in mind."

This creep shouldn't be allowed anywhere near students.

Just staggered by the complete moral void of not even *pretending* to wait for more information before pivoting to “the opponent of the state deserved it.” It is so insanely depraved. Soulless.

THEY WILL NOT BREAK US

THEY CAN NOT BREAK US

THEY DIDN'T BRING ENOUGH GUYS

FOR EVERY ONE OF US THEY TAKE, ONE HUNDRED MORE TAKE TO THE STREETS

THERE WILL FOREVER BE MORE OF US THAN OF THEM

THEY STAND FOR NOTHING, WE STAND FOR EACH OTHER

THEY WILL REGRET COMING HERE

MINNEAPOLIS WILL WIN
fear.

they need to demonstrate that resistance is worse than useless, that it will be broken, and that their agents have impunity regardless of their actions.
So… what’s the strategic goal for the administration in Minnesota, exactly?

I’m not being cute, I don’t understand the theory of victory here and want someone to explain it to me.

I can't say this loudly enough: THEY ARE TRYING TO NORMALIZE THE KILLING OF CIVILIANS FOR PARTICIPATING IN FIRST AMENDMENT PROTECTED PROTEST ACTIVITIES.
Homan: "We gotta stop the hateful rhetoric. Saying this officer is a murderer is dangerous. It's just ridiculous. It's gonna infuriate people more which means there's gonna be more incidents like this."

My grandmother’s family was murdered in the chambers of Auschwitz. She survived and told me never let it get that far. Make them shoot you in public before they murder you in hiding. Stand up for others. Never cave in fear of the Nazis or the holocaust will happen again.

It’s great that the champions and defenders of Western Culture are censoring Plato.

The moral panic over accurately teaching about American racism was always about disciplining professors in general. We’re a check on propaganda, which propagandists hate.
From an email to one of our faculty members....

Not even Plato can escape censorship at Texas A&M!

OMG. Tom Homan was reportedly under FBI investigation for taking $50,000 in cash allegedly in exchange for a commitment to steer government contracts to a specific company. The entire thing was recorded, as it was an FBI sting operation.

The Trump admin dropped the investigation entirely.
Tom Homan was investigated for accepting $50,000 from undercover FBI agents. Trump's DOJ shut it down.
The FBI and Justice officials closed the investigation, which a Justice Department appointee had called a “deep state” probe in early 2025.

The amount of steps between the late night hosts being fired to minorities, LGBTQ, and strong female characters being forbidden is a lot less than we want to believe.

Each step is just a relatively small concession for these giant media conglomerates.

This is wild! It's like something a doctor on a sci-fi show dreams up in the last five minutes of the episode
TIL that for some people with irreparably damaged corneas, you can pull one of their teeth, drill a hole in it, install an artificial lens, sew it into their cheek (so tissue attaches), then pull it out and stick it in their damaged eye, and ... it works fine!?! www.nbcboston.com/news/health/...
Man, 34, is no longer blind after tooth is implanted in eye in 'crazy' surgery
Tooth-in-eye surgery sounds like science fiction, but it can help people with severely damaged corneas see again. A patient and his doctors describe what it's like.

A tenet of Fascism is keep repeating lies and people will become so confused about what is the truth that they’ll start to believe them. We all have a responsibility to keep repeating the truth in the face of politically-motivated lying. Don’t just roll your eyes, speak up.

I will remind folks those images of Nazi book burnings aren't burning just any books. They're burning the library of Magnus Hirschfeld; a gay, Jewish doctor who created an institute dedicated to LGBTQ sex education and healthcare. And a man who pioneered gender affirming care surgeries.

Losing my mind seeing anyone try to argue that AI has sentience. It does not!!! Stop confusing it with fiction. The androids and robots in sci-fi have feelings because HUMANS wrote those stories. In reality our AI isn’t actually intelligent, it’s vastly inferior to what we’ve imagined.

As an alum, a parent, and an expert on kids and families, I'm furious and deeply disappointed to see Brown abandoning trans kids in a moment when they're already facing so much hate.
Just read the Brown University agreement and this really jumped out.

"The University will not perform gender reassignment surgery or prescribe puberty blockers or hormones to any minor child for the purpose of aligning the child's appearance with an identity that differs from his or her sex."
