Books showing the humanity and suffering of others are on tbe chopping block along with straight history books. They're called DEI, CRT, or woke, but the common thread is they show humans suffering at the hands of other humans. They're important lessons, if you think human suffering is bad.

When I was a kid we still had Holocaust survivors come speak at school to full auditoriums. You can't reslly do that today since they're almost all gone, but we haven't replaced that with anything else. We just left the field fallow and stopped planting those seeds.

Civil War and Vietnam were also in our house.

I think we've failed, as a society to impress those lessons upon people like we did closer in time to those horrors. We have too many people that seem to have never learned the horrors possible or how they came about.

Accurate history tells tales and informs of of our past. It's filled with stories of bravery, heroism, nations rising and falling, but most importantly it's filled with warnings of things we should avoid and what the consequences are if we fail..

When you ban the horrors or history you keep people from grasping the possible cost of things. There are lines that shouldn't be crossed. Mistakes we can avoid. Choices that have consequences on a civilizational level. If you don't know something it's harder to avoid.

The book banning and control of information is probably the biggest threat I see now. What informs you? What shapes you? The horrors I saw, in photographs that would be banned on social media today, really helped me understand what we're capable of and that at all costs should be avoided

My parents had this Time-Life series of WWII in the house when I was a child. I was blessed in some ways and not in others, but books were among the blessings. These books informed me very young, maybe too young, of the horrors humans can perform on other people.
