Thread for those new to BlueSky. First of all, welcome. It feels like a safer space, doesn’t it? But also perhaps a bit disorienting initially? Here’s some tips for getting your bearings.

Lovely doing morning yoga to the Christmas tree lights. But how to avoid the temptation to eat the chocolate dangles before Spouse wakes up?

I've been trying to use AI to support a narrative review. Has worked well in many aspects of the work. But it's screwed up royally in three ways:

1. Failed to suspect a study with 100% response rate and 100% agreement by >6000 participants to have a blood test. Saw this as a "quality feature".

A must watch.
A powerful video from Norway displays gender based inequality. The look of dismay & confusion on the girls' faces upon receiving less for the same task was a little painful.

They agreed it was unfair.

Horrific.
36 years ago today, 14 women, most of whom were studying engineering, were killed by an anti-feminist gun man at École Polytechnique in Montreal. I was a young graduate student studying physics at the time and I will never forget. #MontrealMassacre #NeverForget 🧪 👩‍🔬 ⚛️ 🎢 #AcademicSky 🇨🇦

Love all these imaginative advent calendars popping up. Here's one from the chemists.
Brussels sprouts and Finnish lanttulaatikko feature in day 5 of #ChemAdvent. Their chemical connection is glucosinolates, bitter compounds in sprouts and swedes.

Genetic variations in people affect the perception of this bitterness – so if you're not a sprouts fan, that could be why!
