I took care of numerous kids with fulminant hepatitis B in the 90s before the switch to getting the first vaccine at birth. I don’t recall having one since. I do not miss caring for that disease.

The "particularly those in areas with higher air pollution" at the end hides a lot of what's going on here, of course.

People living in areas close to industrial sources and power stations, or in inner cities where vehicle pollution is most relevant, are predominantly BIPOC and/or poor. 1/

Sadism is the lifeblood of MAGA politics. Hard to overstate how disgusting and embarrassing for our country it is for the US Secretary of Defense to be doing this:

When you gut the EPA (over 200 times his first round) it saves the polluters over 1 trillion a year in fines and compliance fees. That’s 1 trillion we don’t collect.

Thank you, Dr. Pagel, for drawing attention to this. Everyone talks about climate change, but not nearly enough are talking about air pollution. It's a major killer!

The US is rolling back standards on harmful soot particulates.

These under the radar actions will cause a lot more illness in the years to come.

Ten years on the UK is still mostly talking to itself about EU relations (from NS Morning Call).

Let me know when any politicians start talking about far greater mobility / freedom of movement, because that will show them thinking about the other side.

Great to attend the annual Blackett Lecture and awards ceremony for the UK Operational Research Society this week!

Also pleased to announce that I will be President-Elect of the OR Society from January 2026 :-)

The transatlantic relationship as we know it is over. Yes, we kinda knew this. But this is now official US White House policy. Not a sppech, not a statement. The West as it used to be no longer exists.
