Remember: If we allow ourselves to fall into fatalism, or wallow in disappointment, or become resigned to what is rather than what should be, we will lose the long game.

The greatest enemy of positive social change is cynicism about what can be changed.

Coming back to this and the question of "why don't we see monster woman and normal dude as much as the other way around," because I was rewatching it and I thought I remembered a point she made.

In part, historically, it's because those stories are pulling from a different archetype...

Today I was reminded not only of the Dadaists but why I absolutely find them and their ideas monstrously tiresome

For those not in the know I have an INPRNT store! Huge sale going on over there right now and it does help put money in an artist's pocket.

But if you're doing the blackout and want to wait until after December 2 feel free.

This is about the "why don't we see more 'man romances the monster' type plots" question and I think this is a big part of it. Though looking at it from this lens I do have an example now but you basically can't film it. It's Shori and Wright from Fledgling.

But it leads to some other stuff.
What we're really looking for when we're looking at these, I think, is stories where the man isn't the one with the implicit or explicit power in the relationship and how he handles being the vulnerable one.

One of Weekes' points is that some of these monster bridegroom stories are...

So I'm sad to say I can't really think of any in western media and even the Anime ones I can think of the monster girl isn't anywhere near as "othered" as these characters are.

I noticed this same dynamic when I was reading paranormal romance more regularly...
Has this pairing ever been flipped? Where a man falls in love with a monster?

Denigrating Native Americans is an essential part of the white supremacist narrative (along with downplaying chattel slavery). It's meant to whitewash any sins committed in the formation and expansion of the European colonies in the Americas.
What is Vance’s obsession with this? He’s talked about it multiple times?
VP JD Vance stood before a crowd and tried to falsify history, claiming Christians ended widespread mass child-sacrifice practices among Native Americans

Very much agreed. It's always fascinating to see when people do this who'll espouse left wing ideas all day but can't be bothered with actual solidarity when it gets inconvenient for them.
Honestly, people calling creators the "petite bourgeoisie" makes me want to snap.

We're working folk. And we work really hard. For next to nothing.

We're not lounging around eating bonbons. We're trying to figure out how we're going to be able to pay rent next month.

And it doesn't help matters that popular media doesn't really bother to talk about artists unless they're Hollywood royalty, just broke another record in a Christie's auction, or just demolished the bestseller list 50 weeks running.

Which 99% of artists have never done and will never do.

Never mind that MOST artists are either underpaid or poor; they'll happily echo the sentiment of the executive/managerial overlords that we should be grateful to have a "fun" job at all.

IMO the weird exception some supposed leftists seem to make for condemning-the-theft-of-labor-except-art-lol-steal-that-shit is just a weird intersection with puritan "if you enjoy yourself, it's not a real job" brainworms.

"fun" job = member of the leisure class (ROFL) = fair game. Somehow.

I liked this so much I want to use this as a springboard for showing off some art and talking about this concept
A fascinating thought for writers: How your cultures ornament and augment their environment says a lot about where their culture places their idea of value. Societies that cover things in complex, intricate motifs are telling you that *labor* is the greatest form of wealth, rather than materials.

As a library worker I can't stress enough how big of a deal this is.

Do you know how many copies of items a library system buys? It's ridiculous! And those numbers can really help authors.
TAPS SCREEN

For like the zillionth time: Libraries are FREE for you, but WE still get compensated for our work!!
Just saw someone claim that authors who want to be paid for their work are "class traitors" because we "only let the wealthy" read our books, and I think I need to go into the woods to scream into the night for a bit.

It's $5, not your first-born child! I need that $5 for health insurance!

The full context is worth looking at but I've got one of my own I think about a lot. Years ago I had back surgery and was in massive amounts of pain. I had a morphine drip and it didn't seem to help.

I'm still, to this day 18 years later, not sure I actually got my morphine.
Whenever younger (adult) White folks tell me that they don't think racism is all that serious anymore, I suggest a little exercise for them: Walk into an adult video store and look for Black porn stars. Are they in an ethnic section? Who's not? So when it serves your purposes, race is very real.

I've said it before and I'll say it again. We cannot let these people rehabilitate themselves. The country needs a massive rejection of the republicans and it needs to be for a long duration.

Folks need to commit themselves to that reality.

Too many folks don't hate these people enough.
At a fundraiser in the Bay Area with v educated and informed people and a few said, "Hey Fuentes and Owens have changed! They're really good on some issues!"

Sigh. Don't sleep on this, folks.
I believe Marjorie Taylor Greene, Tucker Carlson, Nick Fuentes and Candace Owens have the pulse of the modern MAGA movement going forward.

You can laugh at them and dismiss them as cranks, but you have to pay attention to what they're selling.

This is what comes after Trump.

one of the things that makes me most mad about genAI (and there are many) is we've been told there's not enough money for hiring. but there's billions poured into ai.

so not enough money to hire workers. but infinite money to pour into technology whose goal is never having to pay workers again.

Considered law and found I liked the power too much. Didn't have the bandwidth to listen to people's problems professionally. Read a book called Galatea in 2D and realized that book covers were often paintings and never looked back.

So... I have a guess as to why this is. The median voter studiously avoids the news true but I also think we have the issue here of the Epstein emails not moving much because it doesn't actually do what a lot of these people *really wanted.*

Let me explain.
Unfortunately, it appears the Epstein emails have had a marginal impact at best.

Remember, the median voter actively avoids the news and Trump's base of ~35% of the population are White Christian Nationalists who only care about being in power.

Yesterday I had someone tell me they didn't understand what to do when I showed them a resume template and told them they could put their own information into it instead of the indicated red template stuff.

And I have... *so* many thoughts about this.
