I actually do want the next president to appoint someone like Stephen Miller, except I want it to be Bill Kristol, and I want his monomaniacal obsession to be destroying Trump’s legacy and prosecuting everyone in the administration.

I know this is the website where basically no one watches cable but there's this DHS ad with Kristi Noem telling people to self-deport and it's reached the point where my 75 year old mother yells obscenities at the TV that I usually see typed out in League of Legends lobbies

Hmmm, dunno cause Trump said they didn't.
Rand Paul just posted this letter from the Coast Guard confirming that 1/4 of the boats they stop carry no contraband. The likelihood that Hegseth & Bradley ordered the murder of innocent civilians is very high.

Man, isn't it fascinating how an administrative subpoena "chills" the First Amendment rights of big donors, but racial profiling, revoking legal status due to social media posts, getting fired for not revering white supremacists enough or being put on leave for teaching academic writing does not?
Specifically, Roberts and Gorsuch are open to the argument that the subpoena "chilled" donors. (Basically, made them scared to associate with First Choice.) Alleging that government actions "chill" the First Amendment rights of CPCs is a favorite of ADF, as @susanrinkunas.com and I explored here:
Abortion Pill “Reversal” Is a Hoax. It's Also a Powerful Right-Wing Legal Strategy.
Speakers at a crisis pregnancy center conference made rare admissions about the challenges of providing so-called abortion “reversal,” and indicated its importance as a litigation tool.

Dems often overperform in special elections because Resist Dems always vote and MAGA doesn’t show up when Trump isn’t on the ballot.

That’s great but doesn’t tell us a whole lot about the larger political environment.

But this is different. MAGA showed up. They just got annihilated on persuasion.
Generally agree, after all, using specials in 2024 was extremely flawed in predicting the 2024 November election.

One thing though is that this wasn't a low turnout election by US standards, it almost reaches midterm level turnout after being nationalized, and we still get such an overperformance.

If it doesn’t have philosophy, it’s not a university, it’s a white collar trade school
So our campus just announced the six undergraduate programs being put on the chopping block.

One of them is Philosophy.

Philosophy.

Can we be a university without offering a Philosophy major?

Indeed there were many concerned, hand-wringing articles and X posts about "echo chambers" and how we were depriving ourselves of the wisdom of alternate viewpoints, all of which was easily decoded as I AM IMPORTANT AND HAVE IMPORTANT THOUGHTS WHY WON'T YOU ACKNOWLEDGE ME AND MY IMPORTANTOSITY
back when bluesky was still blowing up, wasn't bsky's self-moderation what the dipshits on the right complained about the most? like, those stupid bastards were actually for-real crying about censorship and suppression of free speech because so many of us blocked them.

The only thing worse than ignoring our criticisms is lying about what our criticisms are
For my part, I would say that questioning the framing of some Times stories—for example, the highlighting of Trump’s putative emotions or the foregrounding of what he says (even when, as is often the case, what he says is false)—is not an indication that I want my “views validated.”

Exactly 80 years ago this precise moment (8:40am Hamburg time, Nov. 30, 1945), German submarine commander Heinz-Wilhelm Eck and two of his former subordinates on the U-852 were shot by Allies in Hamburg for killing the survivors of a ship they had sunk. Pete Hagueseth needs to lawyer up immediately.
The Peleus War Crimes Trial
After sinking the Greek steamer Peleus in 1944, the captain ordered his crew to attack the survivors, three sailors survived and faced their attackers in a war crime trial.

Telling devs that coding was initially female coded is the fastest way to get them to accept that they are not Gandalf the computer wizard.
Hate to be that guy but this is more reflective of your personal relation to production than it is an insight to what is happening with AI.

Programming was always more of a trade and people who can freely navigate disruption brought on by AI is a reflection of either management or having a moat.
This is the nut of it

I never built my identity around programming ability and so this era has been weirdly pain free

I always resented the code even as I was paid to write it! It’s been impossible to relate to everyone who did a whole sandcastle around Syntax Knowing

there’s so much more to do
