Also trying to parse all the emails that read like they were written by a concussed golden retriever I think I finally get why these guys are so enthusiastic about getting chatbots to write for them

This is an excellent reminder that no matter what happens with AI or data centers, we are going to need a *lot* more electricity in the future.
Data centers! The sky is falling! What's that, California? Electric vehicle charging will be bigger than data centers? 🔌💡 @yes-energy.bsky.social

TikTok is now under US ownership and their new ToS reads like a guide to giving fascists everything they need to put you on a list.

They’re collecting information about immigration status, citizenship, sexual orientation, whether you’re trans or non binary and physical or mental disabilities.

we're getting all the downsides of cyberpunk (social alienation, ruthless hyper capitalism, digital mass surveillance state) but none of the promised upsides (cheap street food, cool jackets, super drugs that make you really fast and strong before they kill you)

If there’s a better obituary for an evil cartoonist than an A.I. generated version of his character that fucks up the defining detail of its design, I can’t think of it. No notes. 👨🏻‍🍳 💋

Went to the John Le Carre exhibition today and was pleased to learn that the greatest spy novelist of all time in addition to bleak epics of gnawing doubt and tragic moral compromise liked to doodle little animals getting fucked up.

we’re living through the national version of that conversation where you’re like, hey, I don’t think grandpa should be driving anymore, but our cousins are all like, fuck that, give him the keys! grandpa rules! I bet he could drive 1000 miles per hour!

I'm glad "slop" is a recognized word, but we need one for people who are into "tech" but only by way of looking at outputs of things they don't control. Like comparing different AI tools, or reporting on how their self driving cars drive.

There's an interview with BRMC where they talk about telling the dept of homeland security to go fuck themselves when they used their song, and it's pretty interesting that this rock band quickly learned something that the entire opposition party can't seem to figure out

one of the funnier aspects to the AI backlash is the fact that they're negatively polarizing much of the tech enthusiast demographic against them by making hobbyist PC building functionally unaffordable
Just so I'm clear on this, computer memory has tripled in price because a bunch of it that hasn't been produced yet has been ordered to populate GPUs that aren't installed in data centers that aren't built yet in order to service a demand that doesn't exist to make profits that don't happen.

Cloudflare is just one guy holding two cables together. The entire internet runs through them. He is being electrocuted 24/7 but holds on because he knows people need the world wide web. When he passes out from pain & exhaustion we get 404 errors

All of the companies that make the software I use are increasing their prices, to account for an "investment" in AI.

I'm sat here imagining how my clients would feel if I added 30% to each invoice, because I "really got into gambling".
