Dare I investigate the “former rapper” angle

I think I can confidently say he's in like the bottom 1% of SNL musical guests in terms of chart performance
arr.bsky.social
I know there are lots of kinds of popularity now, but I can't find any chart data that would suggest that he's popular as a musician - he's had one single (this one) that charted anywhere at all whatsoever. And it's not like charts are totally disconnected from modern internet popularity

There were definitely some dead zones where there was just a lot of dogshit popular music (first half of the 2000s) or some spots where SNL was on its heels and booking some real stinkers (mid 80s) but this seems like a legitimate rarity... is he someone's nephew or what

At first I was thinking "sure, this is bad but not uniquely bad in terms of SNL musical guests" but I looked back at a full list and their hit rate of people who were at least significant in some way has been pretty high... this guy might be among the least important musical guests ever

is it not weird that every day there’s a new video of anonymous masked men having the time of their lives beating/shooting/disappearing people and the dem response from the top down is “republicans want to double your health insurance premiums”

I should add that this was in the context of an actual real video game company making an actual AI storytelling product - the people running it could understand the idea of "generating text" but had no idea what a story was. I think the company has pivoted away from AI storytelling now

they don't understand that AI (as it exists now) could create a never-ending series of events, but it couldn't create stakes, tension, interesting dynamics between characters that change over time, well-set-up/satisfying twists etc. (any of the things that made Game of Thrones interesting)
arr.bsky.social
A tech person talking to me about AI interactive storytelling had some pitch like "imagine you could play a Game of Thrones story but Ned Stark doesn't die"-- that was the inciting moment of a story. there is not a story without that. it's no longer a story. that's not how stories work

I've been to Boston once since then, but I feel like, spiritually, I've never really BEEN to Boston

this is kind of like that story where the guy from jamiroquai got so mad at winona ryder for being horny that he continued to be the guy from jamiroquai

be careful out there. if you see a deal that seems too good to be true, it probably is.

Somehow when there’s a really stupid plot development in a really stupid TV show it’s even more disappointing… cmon show I’m already giving you all I’ve got. It can’t be all on me to hold this relationship together

life gets better and better every day until about 42 years old, when every moment of life is nearly unbearable ecstasy, and then it still keeps getting better from there somehow

If you can get in a line like "I was expecting someone... different" then you're really cooking... the crowd goes nuts every single time

I think a plot device that should get used a lot more is when someone unseen has a gender-ambiguous name and then a character is really surprised when they meet the person. "Jesse-- you're a WOMAN?" etc. This has thrilled and delighted audiences for decades and is always a welcome treat.

I desperately need people in the media to understand that this is obviously not a creative achievement but it’s also not a technological achievement of any kind. This is ten minutes of work with free open source shit on a home computer
