if you think about this like gradient descent (i.e., you are looking for the parts of the landscape with the highest gradient towards low approval) then this becomes a lot less obvious.
People are waving around 50/50 polling on abolish ICE and in the same poll Trump’s is like 30 points under water on affordability. It’s not at all crazy for professional politicians to think there’s a bigger advantage in talking about the latter!

I genuinely, truly, sincerely do not care what slogan we use, focus test it as much as you want, but the total inability to imagine any kind of politics beyond that level is going to be the death of this political system if it keeps up for much longer.
This isn't a left-right ideological issue. But it blows me away that anyone who is actually anti-Trump would think running back Joe Biden/Merrick Garland 2.0 will work the second time. No political party can tolerate a very large, armed secret police force committed to murdering its voters.

Please stop reposting that BNO News account. All they’re doing is reposting information from Minnesota journalists but without any credit or sourcing.

I wrote section 230 to protect user speech, not a company's own speech. I've long said AI chatbot outputs are not protected by 230 and that it is not a close call. Given that the Trump administration is going to the mat to protect pedophiles, states should step in to hold Musk and X accountable.
I am not a Section 230 expert but being that Twitter is creating and publishing these photos I wonder if they actually have any civil legal protection? @kenwhite.bsky.social ? @akivamcohen.bsky.social ?
What X is allowing Grok to do is unlawful or regulatory-illegal in multiple jurisdictions, creates clear DSA violations, and continues despite regulator scrutiny. The images do not need to be pornographic, non-consensual sexualised or intimate depictions are enough.

The unacknowledged tragedy of this event is that it was the Original Sin for the kind of far-reaching conspiracies that obsess QAnon types, and many of the JFK True Believer types can't see how much they have in common with people they believe are kooks
My first political memory - exactly 62 years ago right now, a 4-year-old boy trying to understand his mom's tears - is still the biggest event in my lifetime. We still (IMO) don't *really* know who killed JFK, but we know the public's trust was shattered. It's a straight line to today's mess

There's no one from whom you should run faster or further away from than someone who brags about their empathy, they are convinced that this not only makes them magically right about everything but that they can speak for everyone else because they also magically know deep down how everyone feels
a lot of people are criticizing this person right now but it would be a shame to miss this absolutely perfect post

The funny thing about the two kinds of OL RW creeps - team "Sydney Sweeney is the prefect Ayran Princess"/ calipers and team "Sydney Sweeney is a mid 6.5 a year away from the wall" is that neither of them can believe that women hate them
Online right wingers can't tell if someone is hot without breaking out a large set of calipers and a calculator

two spaces after a period is for psychopaths and assholes
If you write as part of an organization or your writing passes through any institution, those two spaces are gonna drive people fucking insane. Otherwise, whatever.
can't i just say i prefer two spaces on aesthetic grounds? its arbitrary and doesn't impede readability, and it's my text, I can write what I want

If you were wondering if we would ever be get another "bitcoin is like if sudokus got you heroin" tweet, the answer is closer to the affirmative than ever
the reason board game enthusiasts and polyamorists overlap so much is that once you've decided that every social interaction should require reading a twenty-page rulebook you may as well pick up more hobbies with the same theme

A lot of you haven’t read Hobbes and don’t side with Caesar in FNV and it really shows.

A lot of this reflects the oceanic wide gap between what many people online want to believe, which is a fantasy that they will somehow become the viral Tiananmen Square Tank Guy resistance hero of the protest, and how politics actually works, which is mostly via anonymous, boring grindwork.
the dichotomy between the actual vibe at protests today and the paranoid advice being given by people online is really something

While it's true that it is easier to destroy than build, the way the left has gone about this policy means it has been much easier to destroy their political chances instead of build a winning coalition
If it’s easier to destroy than build why can’t we destroy police. I think ‘it’s easier to destroy than build’ is a platitude that sounds logical but doesn’t stand up to scrutiny. It’s easy to do whatever you have the political will to do. You just decide to do it and pay people to do it.

I like both people's work and have for a while, what's funny is seeing the people defending them who would absolutely 100% have been critical of Clinton running for Senate in NYC and who would have claimed Pelosi was insulting her constituents because she ate fancy ice cream.
People on here have discovered what I pay for rent through the newspaper and are trying to determine if it is problematic. It is definitely problematic. Please tell my landlord my rent is problematic.
