There’s a modern Swedish word, skämskudde, which is a pillow that you use to cover your face in an embarrassing situation (for example, a sex scene in the middle of a film you’re watching with family). You could translate it as “shame pillow” or, if you prefer, “cringe cushion.”

theres this veblen book about how the problem with america is Absentee Ownership,
I've written about the overarching post story, causes, underlying pattern. But the failure of Lewis or Bezos to even show up, literally or figuratively, on a day of devastating cuts epitomizes the profound lack of character and accountability that is so common place today within the American elite.

someone came into my mentions a week or so ago talking about how abolishing ICE was necessary but defunding the police is a bad slogan because we need police and i’d like to wish that person a very merry shut the fuck up because they’re two sides of the same coin.

I feel like Los Angeles is a place where people expect ICE to happen because the kidnappings have been happening to my home city for decades, so there’s less media attention to it now. and I want folks to see that in LA, Latine students are organizing major protests & the police are attacking them

LAPD arrested at least two teenagers protesting ICE raids in Los Angeles yesterday. They were also seen corresponding with ICE agents on Alameda Street during the demonstrations.

THIS stuff is one of the main objections "progressives" had to "trade" deals like the TPP. They are not about "trade" they are about establishing corporate supremacy over governments.

From testimony at a town meeting in Surprise, AZ, about a proposed ICE concentration camp: I'd like to share a story from a local paper in Coldwater, Michigan dated to the 9th of April, 1945. It tells how the US Army, under General Patton--the US 3rd Army--came onto what you might call a detention center just outside the village of Ohrdruf, Germany.

this particular line is maybe the best statement of purpose i have seen for those of us who want a more militant opposition to this administration
“Let us be clear: we want the power of the state. We wish to hold the criminals of the regime accountable. We wish to seize back the public funds looted by Trump and his cronies. We wish to undo the damage he has done to the government. More than any of that we wish to rebuild.”
From Powerlessness to Power
We will not achieve any of our ultimate goals without exercising state power, and the most effective way to take state power is through nonviolent but confrontational resistance.

A manual for ICE's immigrant-targeting computer system, Palantir ELITE, was leaked today.

Let's look at it, then step back to evaluate how far we've come along a dangerous road and where that road might take us. 🧵
Here is the User Guide for ELITE, the Tool Palantir Made for ICE
404 Media is publishing a version of the user guide for ELITE, which lets ICE bring up dossiers on individual people and provides a “confidence score” of their address.
