It's hard to overstate how fully engaged Chicago and the surrounding suburbs are in this ICE madness. There are neighborhood watch alerts, spontaneous crowds gathering outside schools at pick up & drop off plus madly blowing whistles and honking car horns, this city is fighting back and hard.

The risible thing about these "AI = people" posts is that there would be a philosophical dilemma if we encountered truly sentient AI. There are roughly one million sci-fi stories on this very topic. But they're doing all this for autocomplete. They're doing this for a spellcheck that can't spell.

Once a reader asked me about my character using the word "steel" in 1283 England because steel "wasn't invented there yet." I politely explained that the English fucking language as we know it didn't exist yet, but trade routes did so steel was not trapped in Damascus or wherever for a 1000 years
I honestly don't know why people are in so much denial about this. I keep seeing variants on "how could POC have possibly been present in Georgian Britain?" like, have these people not heard of ships?

At this fragile moment in history, any noise you make as a politician towards legitimizing these bullshit concerns is just you helping usher the human race down its slippery slope to pure authoritarian control. We’re equal or we ain’t, that’s it. Gay Panic 2 sucks just as much as the original.
As usual with this issue, Harris is calling for a compromise that already exists. Every sporting body has standards for how long athletes must be on hormones before they can compete as women.

The problem isn’t that we’re ignoring ‘reasonable concerns,’ the problem is that republicans are lying.

A free and democratic society cannot silence comedians because the President doesn’t like what they say.

This is an attack on free speech and cannot be allowed to stand.

All elected officials need to speak up and push back on this undemocratic act.

A key point in Fahrenheit 451 is that books were banned because they made people depressed and uncomfortable. The novel's protagonist, Montag, is taken into custody after he reads a poem that makes a woman cry because she realizes the emptiness of her life.
