Right, the answer isn't to abandon the party to these weasels.

The answer is to flood the party with people who will take it over and transform it.
Hey, a lot of people are talking about changing affiliation from Democratic to Independent.

Let me tell you why you shouldn’t do that in Colorado.

One of the main ways to get a primary challenge candidate on a ballot is to caucus for your party. You need to be registered as a Dem to caucus.

This is part of the rot, executive directors are literally trained to see board membership as a way to extract donations.

They are taught that the primary role of a board member is to raise or give funds.

Wealth (or access to it) becomes the chief criteria for board membership
I wanted to be on the board of a mental health non-profit and my company would even pay for me to get training through the United Way to prepare me for board service, but the organization had a $5,000 buy-in to be a board member

If you accept that non-citizens have no right to due process, you are accepting that citizens have no right to due process. All the government has to do is claim that you are not a citizen; without due process you have no chance to prove the contrary.

I will scream it forever: your Signal chat is only as secure as the least secure phone in the chat.

AT BEST
Yes, even your signal chat. As soon as it goes beyond people you know face to face, just assume there's a fed there
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: just like every gun is always loaded, there is a fed in every chat

I know the threat of never hearing this grand organ play again and the building closing brought tons of people out. But feeling like if Macys offered more opportunities like this to witness live music without tickets or much effort they would have created a thriving third space.

Same.

It's a headscratcher to me that so many folks who write against fascist takeover still put their work on a platform that is explicitly fine with Nazis
I don’t read things written on substack if I can at all help it, this is true of many folks who are too polite to say it for fear of putting off those who write there, but you should know if you’re still on that platform!
just an n of 1 observation: if i land on an article posted to substack, I am 20x (?) more likely to just bounce off of it (esp when it shows that stupid signup / subscribe button immediately) never to return

Whenever I hear people "moderates" talk about being in-between 2 "extremes", it really bothers me. Because I don't see it that way. I feel like everybody is falling victim to misinformation on a massive scale. The American left is not "extreme" at all.

I say this not to attack Aaron, because this is a widespread framing On Here, but:

We need to seriously examine the way we describe these flights of hubris.

It isn't about "stupid" or "insane," it's about arrogance to the point of existential threat of self and others.
Great news everyone it was so much more FUCKING STUPID than it may at first appear

Please remember something: if you had said a year ago that Trump would do even a fraction of these things, you would have been mocked, belittled, accused of “Trump derangement syndrome,” and dismissed by certain people.

Identify those people and block and shun them.

I don’t think it’s possible to overestimate how much resentment and backlash to Me Too has fueled the culture’s rightward shift over the past eight years.
a bunch of east coast journalists got too rattled by having female employees complain about ass grabbing and in response they smugly tilted the entire board not just toward fascism, but to the stupidest motherfuckers in the room

By a longshot, the most common mistake people who are into politics make - from seven-figure strategists to randos offering Takes online - is overestimating how much attention normal people pay to politics, how much they know, and how deeply they think about it.

*Vastly* overestimating.
Saw a "Democratic strategist" say "we have to earn people's trust back." Just mind-boggling that so many don't understand how this works.

Did voters in 2024 say "I trust the Republican Party"? No. They were mad at those in power. Democrats have to get them mad at Republicans. It's not complicated.

Center City Macy’s, located in iconic Wanamaker Building, will close in March
The closure is the latest drama on a stretch of East Market Street that’s been the focus of a recent and fierce civic debate over the approval of a proposed arena for the Sixers.

Dreamers who have been in the US for more than six months cannot reenter lawfully without waiting the three-year minimum. Marriage to a US citizen does not cure the unlawful entry. The only cure to the unlawful entry is a lawful entry, and a lawful entry cannot occur without waiting years. 2/

Obtaining a green card through marriage requires two things: (1) lawful entry and (2) marriage to a US citizen. Once you have entered and stayed unlawfully for more than 6 months, you are barred from reentering lawfully for up to 10 years. Thus, married Dreamers seldom can get green cards. 1/
This is your regular reminder that there is no "line" that undocumented people can get into to fix their papers; it doesn't exist. Even people married to US citizens have to navigate a system that requires them to risk a decade of exile if they want to get permanent status.
Attorneys say the parole program would have been a lifeline for thousands who already qualify for a green card, and have no disqualifying criminal record, but who risk separation from their families if they petition for legal status. It was struck down last month by a Trump-appointed federal judge.
