Google at its peak was basically the best information retrieval system in human history and they and every competitor decided going from there to “you didn’t want answers you wanted half-assed auto-complete 80%-wrong hallucinations” in a few years was the right idea

“AI: The Thirstiest Losers In the Room”

it’s gonna win Best Documentary at a future Oscars where someone’s mic will be cut during their speech for reminding the audience of the year the Oscars were sponsored by crypto and that multiple unions went on strike to fight the AI takeover of their jobs

Two photos taken from Downtown L.A.

They're from the L.A. Herald Examiner in 1951 and 1952. One from the Herald's roof, the other, I don't know, west of Downtown, maybe?

Not particularly remarkable. Kind of boring, really. Unless you know what they are.

They're nukes.

I once knew a Federal bank examiner, and one time someone asked him why we had to KEEP inspecting banks over and over. He basically said every new batch of business school grads invents bank fraud from first principles.
AirBnB CEO calling it “vibe revenue” just 👨‍🍳 😘

The underlying cause of every bubble - debt masquerading as financial innovation - depends on not just short financial memory & speculative neophytism, but reinventing jargon of finance, like how each generation of kids has new ways to say same things.

speaking as a virginia beach native if these kind of dudes are plotting against ICE then there is wide runway in public opinion for straight up abolishing the agency under a dem presidency

Thing is, when Mamdani does something early next year that challenges some Trump admin nonsense, you *know* that Trump is going be extra angry and suggest it's a backstabbing, noting how "nice" he was to him in the Oval Office as if that means Mamdani should now agree to all of Trump's demands.

The 2024 election was a private equity takeover of the country.

If they stay in office, this is what the GOP wants to do to the entire United States of America.
I warned that private equity taking over Walgreens would be bad for workers.

This is the private equity playbook: they hollow out businesses, cheat their workers, and drive them into the ground.

Red Lobster, Toys "R" Us, and Joann Fabrics. Who’s next?
Report: Walgreens cuts hourly workers’ pay for 6 major holidays
The hourly employees will only be paid if they work on those holidays.

They're so fucking stupid and don't realize it. The only reason many white students can afford graduate degrees is because foreign students pay for the programs and allow them to be economically efficient. Without foreign students, many programs will now simply collapse. Genius.

One big red flag about “AI” that makes me doubt it will ever be useful is… I don’t feel like I’m missing out on anything. When the iPhone came out, when Twitter came out, heck when the PS2 came out, I could tell that people were able to do things I couldn’t.

It’s cool how we now have judges openly engaging in what only a few years ago would have been unhinged fascist conspiracy theorizing from the bench in official dissents.

Americans need to realize this isn’t ending with an election
In an unhinged dissent in our Texas redistricting victory, a GOP appointed judge seems to believe that George Soros and I did...well, I'm not sure what...but he is very mad. Bigly.

The ai IRS agent auditing the ai tax prep software agent in an infinite loop steadily boiling the last potable water in the West
this sounds like a great idea. luckily there are no extremely serious consequences to providing false information to the Internal Revenue Service
TurboTax is about to be integrated into ChatGPT, where customers will be guided through tasks tied to their tax filings or financial profile by the AI chatbot.

TurboTax owner Intuit is also paying OpenAI more than $100 million a year to power AI agents.

I have another idea and I need two other people so that I can give you each $5 billion and then you can give me back $5 billion and since that means we all made $10 billion now I will deserve $40 billion because that's synergy and there is absolutely no way it's a bubble so $80 billion please.
I have a terrible idea that won't work and nobody would like but it involves super powerful computers using up a lot of electricity so please send me $10 billion at your earliest convenience thank you.
