This is a good policy for pretty much every billionaire big idea.
- Colonize asteroids or other planets? Great, but the first job for resources is to fix climate on Earth
- Massive power consumption for AI Data centers? Great, but first major task is solving sustainability
- Self driving? 4 transit!
The initial colonist launch is cheap. Henceforth every resupply mission should face an adverse impact to home planet analysis. You shouldn’t be allowed to create massive energy deficit or emissions on earth for shit on mars.
The Congressman from Connecticut is right.

The steadiest of US habits should be compassion to those in need upon the sea.

he sees little risk in open expressions of racism because a significant portion of the elite -- above all on the right but far from exclusively on the right -- lacks the courage and self-respect to enforce now-fraying norms that took a much time and a long, slow struggle to establish
Trump calling Somali immigrants “garbage” shows that he sees little risk in open expressions of racism, @adamserwer.bsky.social argues.

The National Security strategy could have saved everyone a lot of time if they’d just published the 14 words instead because that’s what it amounts to.

A huge part of how erratic and disjointed they all are is that they’re all constantly rotating through a nonstop list of untested, unverified drugs and supplements of dubious origin and unknown effect. It boggles my mind that this isn’t mentioned in every single story about them.

The doc is all about closing the US, yet it says that “openness” is what differentiates it internationally.
It wants to rebalance markets, criticises globalisation, yet says that “free market capitalism” will “continue to make us the global partner of first choice.”

Excellent European perspective on the new US National Security Strategy.

This jumped out to me, too, when I read it last night: America First is America Alone, and all the soft power we enjoy, including the dominance of the dollar, is undermined by everything in the document.
There is one striking incoherence in the text: the document is all about America first.

But the very same document lists America’s “network of alliances” & “unmatched softpower” as assets, and speaks about “collective defence”.
If the US does what it describes in the doc, it will lose all that.

The future Trump and American billionaires have written.
Been evident for a long time that Europe needs to pivot towards China and away from these lecturing, ethnonationalist clowns

Let them destroy their own society/economy with crypto, AI, & gambling markets & focus on becoming a welcoming green super power with strong internal food & energy security

Until the Democrats retake Congress and put in leadership with some spine, the Trump Administration is going to continue to ignore the law, especially on appropriations.
NEW: Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy has loudly defended President Donald Trump’s withholding billions of dollars in congressionally approved federal funding.

But as a House member, Duffy took a drastically different position on presidential power.
Trump’s Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy Once Defended Congress’ Power of the Purse. Now He Defies It.
As a congressman, Duffy made an impassioned legal case against executive overreach. A decade later, judges have used those same arguments to rebuke him for withholding billions in transportation funding.

Quite breathtaking story - military grade drones at Dublin airport which flew on the path Zelensky's plane took. The drones reached the flight path of his plane exactly the time it should have been there, but just missed it because Zelensky arrived ahead of schedule:
Four unidentified military-style drones breached no-fly zone to target Zelenskyy's arrival in Dublin
Gardaí are investigating whether the drones took off from land in Dublin or from an undetected ship.

It's not just liberal judges they're doing this to. They're doing this to plenty of conservative judges too; judges who actually spent weeks and weeks poring over the details and with their arms deep in the guts of thousands of pages of documents and days of testimony.

Those judges are pissed.
