This is a good policy for pretty much every billionaire big idea.
- Colonize asteroids or other planets? Great, but the first job for resources is to fix climate on Earth
- Massive power consumption for AI Data centers? Great, but first major task is solving sustainability
- Self driving? 4 transit!
The initial colonist launch is cheap. Henceforth every resupply mission should face an adverse impact to home planet analysis. You shouldn’t be allowed to create massive energy deficit or emissions on earth for shit on mars.

Trump has shown that when billionaires threaten to remake society for their benefit, you’ve got to take it seriously.

And the only way to take it seriously is to disassemble monopolies and tax and fine away their wealth.

We don’t need billionaires to have nice things.
like so much of what Silicon Valley is up to these days, it's almost impossible to figure out how much of this "Network State" stuff is serious efforts at techno-fascism, and how much is just grifting a childish elite with gobs of cash and a child's understanding of politics
I would say this because I edited it but @mshannahmurphy.bsky.social's piece on tech bros founding their own for-profit cities really is unmissable reading www.ft.com/content/b127...

I think that the serious/performative distinction has broken down completely in the postmodern right. Killing people is performance, making up crypto charter cities is 100% serious even if they don't expect them to ever happen. It's an entirely different type of sanity.

Once again, I see a lot of rightful anger but very little talk of counter action and reform. Should power change hands again, we still have no idea how Democrats would fix anything. Top of their list should be restoring the balance of power: nullify this presidency, removing corrupt justices,

I'm not sure it's in the self interest of America's tech bro billionaires to suggest that we bring back public executions to punish the most destructive people in our society.

This position is fundamentally segregationist—civilization is "erased" by the presence of people who do not share the ethnic background of the present majority—something ironically at odds with the history of Europe, which has been profoundly shaped by migration bsky.app/profile/matt...
All this hate for migrants when nothing transforms a culture more than capital. No amount of immigrants will ever change America, the capitol of capital, more than America transforms immigrants into American businesspeople, citizens of money.

Thread about America being at its best an idea, shared with anyone who wants to help build it

But wanted to highlight this - the campaign and the GOP convention in 2024 made it clear that many in that party do not share the idea of America, and want it treated as a piece of property to be conquered
this is why trump and vance and maga are not just traitors to the republic: they are committing sacrilege. they profane what is most holy. they do this deliberately, because they hate us for our freedoms.

Trump decided to make himself the host of tonight's Kennedy Center Honors so if you do decide to tune in prepare yourself for a night of him rehashing the 2020 election, attacking Democratic leaders and lying about all of his great accomplishments since January 2025.

Heartbreaking. The University of Nebraska will terminate its entire Earth science department.

One of the country's most successful and respected geology & climate programs: gone.

When ideologues & politicians are threatened by the very act of studying climate change, I wonder: who of us is next?
It's over.

Despite the fact that the academic council recommended against it, despite the fact that the program brought in more tuition than it cost, and despite the fact that Nebraskans need & deserve this expertise, Earth & Atmospheric Sciences will be cut.

You can't declare a constitutional amendment invalid. You'd have to amend the constitution to do that. See also 21st amendment.
The team in the White House thinks the slavers should have won the civil war.

John Roberts is gonna rule the 14th amendment unconstitutional since the defeated slave states were not allowed representation unless they approved it.

people died for birthright citizenship. i get that it’s more fun to be a pundit when your team has the white house and you get to brag to friends about visiting the oval office; but what i’m wondering is if maybe that’s actually not a good reason to throw away something we fought a civil war to win?
