Oh it’s too funny. Texas forces through partisan election maps and a court now finds it unconstitutional. In response, California HELD AN ELECTION about whether to redraw maps, which passed. Now the Texas maps are dead and California’s are very much alive. What a world.

Part of the confusion is that due to demographic reasons the non-coastal Western states often vote as badly as the Deep South and also there’s the weird cases of Texas and Florida now being the largest “southern” states but having large swathes that are simply not the South.
