Sometimes big accounts post takes that feel laser targeted to make me stop respecting the poster.

Not only is this take based on something that’s *not true*, it’s also not original. it almost immediately identifies its adherent as someone caught up in a specific social media train of thought.

It seems like some sort of unhealthy body image fixation is more common than it used to be in boys/men (but probably also seems much more common if you’re near it online than it actually is generally). not quite at disordered eating but maybe a hop skip and a jump away from it

Looks like recent ish polling has her at 17%, becerra at 10% (tied with bianco), and 38% undecided. Maybe Padilla jumps in if polls show he’d immediately command a heavy lead, but idk.

I really don’t want porter and I’m not willing to ignore the warning signs in a primary.

At this point, there is a statement from DHS re 🧊 activities in the Chicago area that’s refuted in similar fashion on nearly a daily basis at a minimum over the past week

Despite what some, including at DHS, are claiming, this video isn’t from a year ago in Chicago. It was Friday in Hoffman Estates, in my district, a street I’ve walked myself. It appears to show a child being violently detained by ICE. It’s real, and I’m demanding accountability.

since there's reports on social media of money hitting accounts worth reiterating that this is illegal and unconstitutional as shit, it's not a close question, and while I don't expect anyone on H/SASC or H/SAC will do anything, anyone performing this 'reprogramming' should face criminal penalties

It's also worth reiterating that absent this reprogramming authority being written into law it would be not just illegal but flatly unconstitutional for DoD to expend money in any fashion not explicitly specified (by both type/use and quantity) by Congress in an appropriations bill

The entire incident is infuriating and terrifying. She’s a Latina woman who was working a service job. On her way home late at night, with her headphones in, she was detained for an hour by masked federal agents who wouldn’t give her their names.

Maria Greeley, 44, had just finished working a double shift at the Beach Bar on Ohio Street
earlier this month when she said she was surrounded by three federal agents who grabbed her, forced her hands behind her back and zip tied her.
Headphones in, Greeley had been focused on getting home to her two dogs for a walk.
Instead, she said she was detained by masked agents who did not answer when she asked for names. They questioned her for an hour, she said.

At best unknowable. The question is really “do we avoid Trump if Romney wins,” and I think we can’t be certain we would. maybe he still wins in 2020 as an antiestablishment figure railing against Romney covid lockdowns. do Romney’s fed soc appointees perform better than Trump’s or Bush’s? Idk

My favorite aspect of the Columbus legend is him getting rejected by the Portuguese gets spun as them not recognizing the genius of his idea. No - he went into a roomful of expert navigators and made basic math mistakes, they thought he was a moron, and they wouldn't fund his idea on that basis.
