Gavin Newsom just announced that California will be the first state to join the World Health Organization.

This is in direct defiance of Donald Trump, who just pulled the United States out of the organization.

This is what America has always been about: the promise of its best people upholding its ideals in the face of its worst people constantly tearing them down. You can focus on the bad parts, but I choose to uplift the good parts

I came to Minneapolis to report on what's going on, and one of the main questions I showed up with is "just what is the scale of the resistance?" After all, we're all used to the news calling Portland a "war zone" or whatever when it's just some protests in one part of town.

Attn news commentators: Trump saying he could use force to obtain Greenland but won’t is not Trump saying he won’t use force to obtain Greenland. It is Trump using force as a threat to obtain Greenland. That is why he mentions it.

One gets the impression that Stephen Miller is speed running a hyper-violent, uber-militarized operation of unabashed ethnic cleansing while getting grandpa (who wants everyone to love him) to agree to it by telling him it's only "the bad guys" they're getting, with the occasional innocent mistake.

The old constitutional order is gone, and we should be straightforward about that. It’s obvious that, whatever else is on the reconstruction agenda, ICE abolition must be included.

For goodness’ sake, Bill Kristol is in favor of it. Can you really not get there? trib.al/Au0nOrx

On the ground here in Minnesota, it’s hard to reconcile the immense bonds of community that have been built in a week with the fact that we live in a country whose government appropriated billions of dollars to an unaccountable paramilitary force whose sole purpose is ethnic cleansing.

the question to ask about this is, okay, he wants to cancel the midterms. how does he get the VA state board of elections to cancel the midterms? how does he get the georgia board of elections to do it? how does he convince republican house members to quit their jobs and give up their paychecks?
Trump says a lot of deranged shit, but, per this Reuters article — and the threats of invoking the Insurrection Act in Minnesota this morning — he is very clearly exploring how to cancel the midterms.

Every bit of focus Europeans put into defending Greenland from foreign aggression is time and energy they're not using to defend Ukraine from foreign aggression.

Doesn't mean that's the cause of US threats, but it's an effect either way.

And, you can also change the narrative yourself, by leading the public. Public pressure absolutely moves politicians. Sitting around waiting for others to take this seriously is failing. Making something the story and making the public care about it is the job of a politician.
IMO the argument is that you can make things into big enough deals that it matters. Khanna found Massey and found survivors and made the Epstein Files the gigantic story it should be. Only then did establishment Dems come along. You can, in fact, make things into big hairy deals if you do it right.
if you want the Senate to do something, Senate Republicans must do something.

People are dunking on this but I'm not really sure what plays Schumer has other than to try to peel off Rs.
