These are HEPI estimates of the 20 institutions affected: I think this illustrates the impact if the tariff is absorbed in full by institutions.

What share of the 6% tariff different universities may try to pass on to fees - or the impact might be on demand if they did - is not publicly known.

It’s two months exactly today since my dad died. Grief is a strange, terrible thing. I’m sure he’s just out in the shed waiting to be called in for a cup of tea, then it hits you like a punch to the throat and I unravel a little bit further

My hot take on AI fwiw. AI is not inherently bad. Complex tech only reflect the economic & political systems they exist within. Tech can be developed in capitalist economies focused on profit alone & break the planet, or tech can be developed & regulated with sustainable & equitable futures in mind

Excellent OA article about the impact of AI beyond carbon emissions "the advancement of AI is contingent upon hazardous extractive & polluting practices" (not to overlook the impacts on human rights, IP, creativity & critical thinking but that's another lecture)

The BBC news right now is about the increase in metal detecting finds, especially in Norfolk, thanks to ‘how easy’ finding treasure is. The message is, loud & clear, to buy a detector, get out & dig for surprises, cash to be made etc. Not a thing about reporting it FFS
