And people were already suspecting that before Alex Pretti's murder. At both my local protest immediately after Renee Good's murder, and the one I was at Saturday morning, people had signs that read, "They Will Kill Again" and "They Would Kill You Too."

ICE immediately proved them right.
Suddenly the public is not reacting to a 'single tragedy' (in their view), but rather the horrifying question of 'is ICE going to execute a citizen in public on video every two weeks for the next year? three years?'

With the repeat - and such a *quick* repeat - the event becomes a pattern.

Last week in Minnesota, I watched ordinary people risk their lives to protect their neighbors. In the process, they not only won a significant—though not final—victory against authoritarianism, they proved virtually every MAGA social theory wrong. (gift link) www.theatlantic.com/ideas/2026/0...

Here's a regular white guy (literally "Chad") not a protester. because, "It seemed pointless, or just a way for people to expiate their sense of guilt." Chad witnessed something shattering. And, that all changed in a moment.

Excellent article!

people are (understandably) focusing on the donuts and coffee but this woman telling the NG that she has BVMs and occlusive dressings if they're needed for first aid purposes has me in my feelings
BREAKING: The Minnesota National Guard is handing out coffee and donuts to Anti-ICE protesters in Minneapolis, after governor Tim Walz called them in to help out.

The good guys!

The best part of the march today is when the demonstrators started chanting "ICE DEEZ NUTS" (objectively hilarious) and after a bit the little old lady marching near me leans close and says, "So . . . I just don't know what that means." And I had to explain it to her.

Explaining why even orange cats can purr
In fact, the weirdest part: sustained purring doesn't require *brain involvement at all*.

There are fibrous pads in the throat (plica vocalis) that are set in motion by an impulse, then SELF-SUSTAIN the purring until the breathing pattern stops.

It's "flow-induced self-sustained oscillation" 🧪😸
Domestic cat larynges can produce purring frequencies without neural input
Cat purring has been assumed to be produced by centrally controlled cyclic contractions of intrinsic laryngeal muscles, but Herbst et al. now show that cat larynges can generate purring-like sounds vi...

Everyone has a part to play. Even—especially—the person who moderates the subreddit for videos of people patting their cat on the butt really rapidly.
This is an excellent example of someone using their power to shun those that deserve it.
