BTW when I say abolish ICE, I mean abolish it entirely and replace it with exactly nothing. Give me your tired, your poor, your huddled masses yearning to breathe free. That's it.

Read this thread. It will give you hope.
I came to Minneapolis to report on what's going on, and one of the main questions I showed up with is "just what is the scale of the resistance?" After all, we're all used to the news calling Portland a "war zone" or whatever when it's just some protests in one part of town.

The thing about America today is that if you just describe what is happening objectively and unemotionally you sound hysterical and partisan and what you have to remind people is that the reason for that is not you, it's the people doing the things you are describing
This guy went to work today, put a mask on, kidnapped a 5 year old child, and then used him as bait so both he and his father could be sent behind bars

I appreciate the calls for Nuremberg style trials but it's worth pointing out the Nuremberg trials only convicted 161 Nazis with the US smuggling out 1600 nazis they thought would be useful in Operation Paperclip.

We don't need a repeat. We need something akin to the French Reign of Terror.
ICE are abducting 5 year olds, using them as bait to get to their family, and shipping them to a Texas concentration camp all in a single day.

We need a Nuremberg for everyone involved. Abolish ICE isn't enough.

When Trump dies we get Vance. Thiel’s pet.

They'll blame a lot of stuff on Trump AND try to fast-track an even uglier white supremacist techno-Christofascism.

We must prept for this now & organize accordingly.
Grassroots activism, coalitions. Dissent. Sand in gears. Strikes.

Every angle.

Politicians who oppose the rights of trans people do not want you to control your own body or decide how you live.

It’s that simple, and it’s 100% a predictor of voting on aaallll those issues.
I can't trust politicians who are anti-trans. Not because I'm "only searching for perfection" which is what centrists will be accusing me of for the rest of my life, it's because if you're not pro-trans you'll be garbage on lots of other issues too. Being anti-trans NEVER exists in a vacuum.

It bears repeating over and over again: our federal government has declared war against wide swaths of its populace, and every single day it gets worse
How is this not inciting violence?

Why must they remind ICE that they have immunity?

One of their agents just shot a killed a woman in broad daylight and they’re effectively telling them to go ahead and do whatever they want because they’re above the law.

Be safe Minneapolis.

You notice how thousands and thousands of cops aren't coming out to condemn Jonathan Ross for senselessly killing Renee Good?

This is what people mean by "all cops are bastards". If this were any other profession, the entire group would condemn it. With cops it's the reverse, they all justify it.

I feel like we all need to revise how we think about the importance of shock in public discourse.

After a while things stop being shocking because we're *in shock.*

And over a long time like, say, the entire last decade, of unending shock and horror, it becomes harder to evince normal responses.

"Why is [story] not more shocking to people?"

Because if we are always shocked by all the shocking things, we can't get any work done. At some point we become numb, either by conscious effort or physical conditioning.

The chemical bath of shock is a useful short term, *intermittent* feature.

So you know that claim that Renee Good's murderer had severe injuries from being dragged by a car?

Turns out, that was from another incident when he assaulted someone who was trying to leave.
The case involved Ross punching out a man's window and tasing him while he attempted to drive away; the man shook him off his car, giving Ross injuries that required 33 stitches. The man called 911 to report that he'd been assaulted by ICE and was later convicted of assault on a federal officer.
