No. 22 : Audition by Katie Kitamura. I’ve read three of her novels—A Separation, Intimacies, and Audition; Audition is my favorite. It’s a fast read, has an interesting puzzle structure, and raises a lot of uncomfortable questions about childlessness and mother-son relationships. 9/10.

I didn't expect the public to have such a discerning take on the indictments of Trump versus Trump's indictments of his enemies.

Every book list mildly depressed me because I will only have the time to read a tiny fraction of the books worth reading in a human lifetime
Woodworking is on NPR's top books of 2025 list, and as a longtime user of NPR's book lists to purchase holiday gifts and add stuff to my library list, I am so glad to think some alternate universe version of myself might decide to check out my new book!

If the congressional resignations actually happen, i think he will be impeached over this
Really looks like the United States is about to launch a regime change war against Venezuela with:

-No casus belli
-No authorization from Congress
-No allies or international support
-No plan for a post-Maduro Venezuela
-No preparation for any sort of stabilization or containment of the fallout

The statute they’re threatening to charge him under — 18 U.S.C. § 2387 — is probably unconstitutional on its face and is definitely unconstitutional as applied to Kelly’s speech

oddly, it seems much easier to identify LLM text from the latest models, compared to say, GPT 4
I hate that every time I see a “it isn’t x, it’s y“ formula, I think that I’m reading LLM generated text

Il n’y a pas de hors-texte
well it's a good thing that human language and conceptualization is impossible to step outside of, thus making it a provisional evil vector that nevertheless is all that can necessarily ever be experienced, collapsing the distinction altogether

i do not want to underestimate the seriousness of the charges — if true, these men should spent long stretches in prison — but the likeliest outcome of them actually attempting this would’ve been both of them being murdered within hours of making land, based on what’s described here

the problem with saying that Donald Trump is a fascist but you have to talk to everyone in power is that you’re basically explicitly treating fascism as just another political ideology

I had a popular account with a valuable audience and my Twitter payout was $80 a month-ish, to the point where I disabled monetization instead of uploading my ID. Payouts are only material if you live in a developing country, so “guy in Nigeria posting right-wing Amerislop” has taken over the site.
Twitter pays people based on engagement (views, retweets, comments, etc). It appears that many MAGA accounts are based abroad and they use AI technology to generate low-effort rage bait.

My guess is that this will get worse as AI tech improves. For instance, fake videos of minorities doing crime.
