Sad to see that Bob Stern passed away. He brought a lot to the field of architecture by understanding what worked from the past and knowing how to bring that into the present. Also he didn't use a computer, which sounds fantastic right now

My annual reminder that THE VERY THOUGHT OF YOU (1944) is possibly the loveliest Thanksgiving movie ever made. It has everything: romance via Eleanor Parker and Dennis Morgan; blacklist interest via co-screenwriter Alvah Bessie; great DP in Bert Glennon; and an underrated auteur, Delmer Daves.

Look, I’m not an economist and I was told there would be no math, but I think it says something that on this particular app, there are many people who cannot wrap their head around the fact that no matter what the traditional/standard economic indicators are, people truly were struggling in 2024.

I have trouble with the macy’s parade because inevitably savannah and hoda come out in their winter coats to interview a celebrity and their backup dancers just have to stand there in their tank tops and mini skirts until it’s over, pretending they’re not freezing

This is the correct take. Stewing in white supremacist propaganda is bad for your thinking. And if think you are so savvy that it won’t impact you, you are the exact kind of mark they are slowly converting (I’m looking at you, centrist pundits).
It’s really funny how a generation will roll its eyes at parents who watch Fox News but doesn’t see why being immersed in Twitter is having the same effect. Lots of serious people show up on Fox News too but that shouldn’t be your primary source on the news.

worth noting that there have been no reported violent assaults w/a gun near 17th & I since 2018, and no homicides from 2008 on (the publicly available data only go back to 1/1/2008). This is not a dangerous area–there was no reason for them to be there. (data from crimecards.dc.gov/homicides:cr...)

So many men go through life like that. You can play poker because it's right-coded, you can't enjoy fruity alcoholic drinks because they're women-coded, you can't lick an ice cream cone because it's gay-coded. All day, every day, choosing and judging things based on coding for narrow norms.
