well I for one am shocked that "every aspect of your life gets worse forever and also look at my marble bathroom" did not turn out to be a winning election strategy

Zohran has already gotten 250k more votes than Eric Adams did 4 years ago when he was hailed as the future of the Democratic Party.
It’s silly that this moves me so much but we have had so few leaders recently who feel like real people, living in our communities.
Next week’s New Yorker cover.

I sincerely hope Democrats pay attention to tonight’s results across the country. They won’t learn anything but still. Maybe. People are excited by change and original campaigns and bold ideas and candidates under the age of 50!

why is this mayoral election different than all other mayoral elections?

in all other mayoral elections, we get to see andrew cuomo lose but once. but in this mayoral elections, we get to see him lose *twice*.

Sherill's lead in New Jersey is currently larger than Spanberger's in Virginia.

A day bookended by wins from Jonathan Bailey and Zohran Mamdani? A war criminal death? A Dem sweep in statewide races? Good Indian food for dinner?

Like Ice Cube said, Today was a good day.

The factional grifters will hate this, but the Mamdani-Spanberger-Sherrill axis actually suggests the outlines of a broad, emerging Dem coalition organized around both anti-Trump *and* affordability politics, not a party bitterly divided against itself.
These big wins will embolden Dems to take on Trump's lawbreaking and show there's a price for GOP enabling of him. Folks hate to hear this, but normal patterns are asserting themselves: Liberalism isn't dead, Rs are likely to lose in 2026, and Trump is really unpopular, not a magical exception.
Hope is a powerful emotion!

Wow it turns out the entire country is not permanently reactionary because Trump won an election by 1.5%

Near wipeout predicted for Virginia House of Delegates Republicans. Democrats on track to get at least 60 seats, maybe more.
