The action hasn’t died down in DC, they’ve just made it less visible after their shock and awe phase. I’d bet we’ll see the same in Chicago & Portland.

The “emergency” ended a month ago, but I woke up this morning to reports of 3 ICE actions within a 10 min walk of my house within 6-7:30am. #FreeDC

Yep.

We are still occupied. MPD is *still* cooperating w/the feds, despite the mayor saying they're not.

A couple weeks ago I was stopped for a "routine traffic stop" by the Secret Service (& no person they protect was anywhere nearby).

It's hell & folks are fighting.

It feels like we’ve been forgotten, maybe because there aren’t huge confrontations to run photos of. But our neighbors are still being taken every day. Routine traffic stops are now done by 12+ feds alongside local police.

More efficient, but I also think the visibility was the point at first. Now it’s just supposed to be normal to have all these feds around and soldiers, and for people to just very quietly disappear.

Today following outreach from @thejusticedept, Facebook removed a large group page that was being used to dox and target @ICEgov agents in Chicago.
The wave of violence against ICE has been driven by online apps and social media campaigns designed to put ICE officers at risk just for doing their jobs. The Department of Justice will continue engaging tech companies to eliminate platforms where radicals can incite imminent violence against federal law enforcement.

I’m sure the active opposition from other cities’ leadership is part of it as a broader matter. But if the point of the post was that ordinary people are being traumatized, that is still very much the case here.

They are quite purposefully less visible. Stops and arrests are happening in under 10 minutes mostly. They have been targeting construction crews and work vans, and are overwhelmingly focused in Wards 1 and 4. Here’s a video I took of FBI, CBP, HSI, and others with MPD in Petworth about 2 weeks ago.

I sometimes think people don't see DC as a "real" city as it's the Capitol, but over 700K people call it home - so many families have been here for generations and exist outside of the people the rest of the country send here to govern.

There was a deal under Biden, more than a year ago. Netanyahu delayed and specifically said they would do the deal under Trump. I don’t know all of what made it happen now vs 9 months ago, and what role global pressure played, but the issue wasn’t really that Biden couldn’t broker a deal.
