We talked about this in my class. People (& lenders!) need to have credible information about climate risk to their homes. However the way it is done right now, if at all, has lots of uncertainty. A home could be categorized as low-risk when it’s high risk, & vice versa! NOAA should do this service.
Realtors know that, in many parts of the country, if you educate people about climate risk, the housing market will collapse.

The ever popular unstoppable meme domino man is not merely unstoppably popular but also has phenomenal package design, really drives home that you should be excited for this guy, who of course can not be stopped. The CD art in particular is an infinite loop which evokes the looping stage design.

Art Dink wanted you to get hype for this character I think they immediately never use again. Stickers for your memory cards (done in grey so that your generic memory card is now a mr domino character is a wonderful touch). I also really like the photo of Mr Domino in a street.

One of the reasons I am not optimistic about the US in the medium term is that the right’s entire political project for the last fifty-ish years has been the destruction of civic virtue while hypocritically whining about the moral decay of society that they have been actively encouraging
The core problem is that in a state, something has to be sovereign - in a democracy, it is the people - and you can design and tinker as much as you like but there is no way to design around a loss of virtue in that sovereign entity.

If the people keep elected maniacs, no guardrails can hold.
one of the things dr schake and i were both wrestling with in this conversation--i think not really conclusively--is how you maintain the norm of civilian supremacy when the civilians are issuing objectively illegal, murderous orders

The death of browsing is part of the reason art is the way it is now. Our opinions are largely fed to us by algorithms. Spending a spare 15 minutes wandering around a bookstore or comic shop or video rental place was how you found stuff you wouldn't ordinarily pick up and thereby expanded your taste
Bookselling is like the most "people go to the store and buy what looks cool to them without a particular agenda" type business left, and your purchases have a huge influence on what is ordered, what is displayed, and what is recommended.

I mean, if Dönitz could reject Hitler's order to kill Allied survivors in the water, that pretty much removes any excuse a US Navy admiral could offer.

this headline, and much of the reporting, is the result of believing that the key to good journalism is never taking a position
NEW: The F.D.A. announced in an internal memo that 10 children died "because of" the Covid shot. Other experts want to see proof.

“This is a profound revelation,” Dr. Prasad's memo said. “For the first time, the U.S. F.D.A. will acknowledge that Covid-19 vaccines have killed American children.”

ICE is staging in a garage on Centre St & Howard in lower Manhattan ahead of what neighbors believe is a planned large-scale raid of Canal
Street this afternoon.
Estimated 20-25 agents inside, with more steadily joining, some taken by surprise and caught with their masks down.

Yeah in other western hemisphere military news it hasn't exactly made the headlines but Marines at the embassy in Port-au-Prince have been swapping gunfire every couple of days for a while with random jabronis who decide to take a potshot at them
Additional U.S. Marines being sent to Haiti to defend the embassy from gang attacks face a grim reality: They're increasingly being targeted by American-made, military-grade firearms.

The thing about fansubs is regardless of anything else that may be going on, ultimately fansubs are made by someone who *really cares about what they're making*. That actually was true at one time at Crunchyroll. It is not true now.

Considering how everything for anime has to be done with the approval of the original Japanese licensor(s) now (this isn't the Wild West of the 90s & earlier), this pretty much means that the Japanese licensor for Banana Fish had to have approved this.

So, who's the licensor for this? Aniplex.
