Instead of crapping on YouTubers who want to get attention & make people annoyed by calling titles like Escaflowne or Tenchi Muyo! "obscure" or "forgotten", I say visit this here blog, which for ~15 years has focused on stuff that ACTUALLY IS "obscure" & "forgotten"!

Think this brings up some good discussion when it comes to the way we discuss whether certain series live or die, and how cancelled works aren't often given the appreciation they deserve
Let's talk about Shonen Jumps 3 newest manga, as well as how we discuss new series within the magazine in general!

You know it is a bad sign when even some of the people who work on the AI systems for Amazon think they are using ai way too much.

Amazon Workers Issue Warning About Company’s ‘All-Costs-Justified’ Approach to AI Development
Amazon Employees for Climate Justice says that over 1,000 workers have signed a petition raising “serious concerns” about the company’s “aggressive rollout” of artificial intelligence tools.

and to be clear: when I say 'production companies' i'm not talking just amazon, crunchyroll, netflix, etc. etc. I'm talking Aniplex, Toho, Toei, etc. Those guys would LOVE to never hire actors, animators, writers, the whole package, ever again. theyd do it in a second if they thought it'd work!!

You know what those clips from Banana Fish's AI dub on Amazon remind me of? The Prince of Tennis fandub that @sasuraiger.bsky.social sometimes reminds us all existed. Almost exactly the same kind of inflections, deliveries, & awkwardness

But even THAT'S better, because the fandub was by real people

Holy. SHIT. Like........ WOW... It's so much worse than you'd think. Like, before I hit play, I figured it would just be kind of awkward but... wow...

... WOW
The only thing less human than these AI dub performances is the decision to sign off on them

A company this big can pay human actors a decent wage, not produce slop that intentionally removes the human element.

Again, I usually don't repost scanlation updates here out of respect for the professionals that may follow me... but you can see why I'm making a exception for this chapter specifically.
The one where Kenzaki punches a white supremacist.

Read to the end for volume extras!

Fans have waited 7 years for a dub of this. They deserved better.
Hey just so you know Amazon decided to give us an AI ENGLISH DUB of Banana Fish instead of actually hiring real voice actors
it is fucking hot garbage

surprised it took this long for a publisher to try this with a 'real' series. next we'll see a series with an AI-created original Japanese dub.

you folks would not BELIEVE how much the production companies want to do this. they want to never hire actors SO bad!!

ok maybe you WOULD believe it ☹️

I worked with Discotek when they first started putting out these releases to create a Leiji Matsumoto Bible to ensure that all of the terms would be consistent between the manga and anime releases

No other company ever asked me to do that. It showed how much they cared. I have mad respect for them
Galaxy Express 999 - TV Series Complete Collection is out!

Considering how everything for anime has to be done with the approval of the original Japanese licensor(s) now (this isn't the Wild West of the 90s & earlier), this pretty much means that the Japanese licensor for Banana Fish had to have approved this.

So, who's the licensor for this? Aniplex.

While writing a review for Zillion on Master System, I realized that it's the 2,000th article written for Sega-16. I can't believe we've hit that milestone. Never in a million years would I have thought that the site would still be up and so robust after almost 22 years, and it's gratifying to see.

Decided to spend my Black Friday visiting some (not really all that) local retro game stores, and I came out of it with some neat finds.

The Vectrex slipcover was especially cool, & after seeing @seanseanson.bsky.social's video on it from a bit back I couldn't say no to grabbing The Snowman for PS1
