the person who made that video about single-screen arcade platformers about eliminating enemies pronounced Snow Bros. as "Snow Brothers" and it fucked me up for like five seconds because like. it's *technically* not wrong, and it's correct for, like, Super Mario Bros., but like... the rhyme...

Exciting news! Shuhei's previous game, Raindrop Sprinters, is fantastic and of course it's great to hear that Daisuke Amaya (Cave Story, Kero Blaster) is involved as graphic artist and advisor. Looking forward to it!

I'll never forget quitting this game after 5 hours because it was boring and then coming back to it 7 years later to find out just how fucking boring it actually is.

Did you know that the latter two Penny Arcade RPGs are now completely free? I only found that out today!

Rewatched CAVEAT (2020) and loved it so much this time.

It's like a scary 90's point and click adventure game inspired by the paintings of Dragan Bibin.

last week i remembered that macOS lets you set your own icons and that *I* have the power to delegitimize the professionalism of the software that runs on my machine, so here's a thread of the 16 new icons i've made so far

i really forgot how fun it was to just sit down and make art for myself :')

This was a true team effort and I'm honored to have played a big role in editing it. I can't imagine a better way to express my deep and abiding love for this once-in-a-lifetime game.

Also props to Danny for the Demonschool style credits on this series!

To heal our divided nation I propose splitting Game of the Year awards into two categories:

- Game of the Year That’s 3D and You Use a Sword and/or Gun to Explode a Guy
- Game of the Year That’s Some Gay Bullshit Indie Meditation on Grief or Whatever

I'm playing through this game at the moment and it's surprisingly obscure considering it's an RTS, something the PS1 desperately lacks in its library, by Sony and so it's well made, looks great and also has quality audio design.

Alright lads I got a pitch, we make a dogshit game, real bad just we got nothing, fuck, so bad you won't believe it but here's the ticket we keep a big ass box of carts and retire in luxury
Rit's' most notorious entry is Panzer Dragoon Mini, a real game that exists on Sega Game Gear, as late as 1996.

Not even Famitsu would fuck with it, giving it 14 in 40. The art is nice, but it's extremely basic. Just like the main series, it sold poorly and a copy is like €700. Here's a snippet:

akira yamaoka viewed his role in that game as a way to introduce hundreds of indie musicians to people in hopes that even just one would resonate with each player and let them find a new favorite. this is a disgusting and depressing repudiation of one of the few human and good things about the OG

This line from Video Games (Apr 83) was too prescient. One of the more frustrating things to me about the state of video game preservation is what feels like a general lack of interest in pre-'80s games; I will never stop banging the drum about the importance of '70s games (especially Death Race).

Don't make your game for people that won't play your game, believe in yourself
Some modern STGs are conscious of possibly being anyone's first arcade scrolling shooter, and bend themselves into knots trying to be an entire genre tutorial before being their own identifiable game.

As ever, make the games/music/videos/writing you'd want to enjoy, and others will enjoy it too.
liking game genres that spawned from the arcades condemns you to forever suffer cuz no one outside of the bubble gets it and every developer wants to the appeal to the guy who doesn't get it
