@reckless.bsky.social A way to cover Linux on the desktop: As a parent.

Maybe 2026 ain't the year. Ok. But it does look like if I want my kids to be able to use computers AS COMPUTERS (not as consumers of products), it'll be with Linux or an equivalent.

So, how do I prepare myself to teach them?

Just to be clear on what happened today:

The US Coast Guard changed rules to be more tolerant of personal displays of swastikas and nooses.

But it didn't get much coverage because...

The President threatened to hang legislators who told service members to not break the law.

Coincidentally I'm sure, Bessent is both the most effective leaker in the admin, and the person in the admin who hates Pulte the most.
In just a few hours stories on this have dropped in at least four different outlets — MSNOW, CNN, NBC, and ABC. Someone really wants this story out.
ABC's story about the investigation of Eagle Ed and Bill Pulte's outside investigators is quite extensive.

So... nooses too.

Nooses are also more tolerated under this policy.

this is so fucking frustrating.

OF COURSE SERVICEMEMBERS MUST REFUSE ILLEGAL ORDERS. THE PROBLEM IS THAT OGC IS TELLING SERVICEMEMBERS THAT ILLEGAL ORDERS (wrt bombing boats in the Caribbean, anyway) ARE, IN FACT, LEGAL. PERHAPS THE CONGRESS WOULD LIKE TO EXERCISE OVERSIGHT ON THIS ISSUE

A likely outcome is that in their attempts to withhold some things they fail to release a bunch of stuff that was already made public and starts a major outcry.
on the one hand it would be ludicrous for them to release extremely damaging information when they control what gets released

on the other hand they are very, very bad at their jobs
lot of people on this app seem really committed to the notion that nothing damaging will come out of the Epstein files.

let yourself hope a little! it’s free!

Even beyond the morals of this, it's disgusting watching the president of the United States grovel like this.
Trump suggests Khashoggi had it coming: "You're mentioning someone that was extremely controversial. A lot of people didn't like that gentleman that you're talking about. Whether you like him or didn't like him, things happen. But he knew nothing about it. You don't have to embarrass our guest."

Snuggling up with Saudi Arabia because they're "more aligned" with Trump's "values" is happening at the same time as a systematized attack on Christian churches in the US.

It's very important to remember that for Trump, a core part of how the world works and who he is and how he has gotten to be where he is...

IS BANKRUPTCY.

Something doesn't work out? Leave all the stupid bag holders holding the bag and walk away unharmed.

Over and over again.
Trump: "THE ONLY HEALTHCARE I'LL SUPPORT OR APPROVE IS SENDING MONEY DIRECTLY BACK TO THE PEOPLE W/ NOTHING GOING TO THE BIG, FAT, RICH INSURANCE COMPANIES, WHO HAVE RIPPED OFF AMERICA LONG ENOUGH. THE PEOPLE WILL BE ALLOWED TO NEGOTIATE & BUY THEIR OWN, MUCH BETTER, INSURANCE. POWER TO THE PEOPLE!"

Trump's War on Christians on Christmas.
"Agencies within the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, including ICE, ERO, and CBP intend to implement a comprehensive plan to target Spanish-speaking churches across the country during the upcoming holiday season between Thanksgiving, Nov. 27, and Christmas, Dec. 25."

It explains a lot that our country has been run by people dumb enough to put in an email, "I guess I'll have to move on from 'persistent unwanted advances by a someone in a position of authority' sexual harassment to good old fashioned 'quid pro quo' sexual harassment" in an email.
The emails have Summers reporting to Epstein about his attempts to date a Harvard economics student & to hit on her during a seminar she was giving.

I'm confused.

Is he comparing himself to an ugly loser pedophile outcast?

In this metaphor is the attempted kidnapping and imprisonment him stealing the country through a 2028 takeover?

Does he know that in this metaphor he would be the loser that fails and disappears in shameful obscurity?

A thing I keep coming back to is that, given

1) how much has been invested
2) how quickly GPUs depreciate
3) how little revenue opportunity currently exist (meaning how many new extraction mechanisms must be created)

the speed and intensity of AI product enshitification will have be *extreme*.
It’s also quite cyclical as not all contracts are longer term in duration. So again for MSFT who is aiming for 30% ROIC, it’s not worth it.

For neoclouds it *can be*, but I wouldn’t call it high quality or one I’d like to invest in.

Key detail here: For Trump, being an entrepreneur means declaring bankruptcy multiple times.

So, from that perspective, yeah he's 100% right people will feel just like he does when he's entrepreneur-ing.
“It’s so good .. They’re gonna feel like entrepreneurs” is a line that will live on.
The Affordable Care Act created a marketplace where consumers could use subsidies to help purchase private-sector plans. Trump’s concept of a plan involves no such marketplace, plunging consumers into a state of nature.

is very different than

"Standing up to Trump gave him more power."
