In our Intel Briefing this week:

An update on the govt shutdown and the stories I'm getting from Michiganders on the health care premium increases they’re being told about.

I go deep on Trump's playbook to declare secret wars against secret enemies and label Americans as domestic terrorists.

It’s not politics. It’s your kid’s doctor visits. Your mom’s cancer screening. It’s deeply personal. And the letters being sent to Michiganders about price increases aren’t some made-up line. People know their pocketbooks. And they certainly know when politicians are trying to sell them a line.
The House has been out 28 straight days. Paid. And @SpeakerJohnson is dismissing the health care crisis as ‘just politics.’

Sen. Elissa Slotkin: "We want to sit in a room and have a negotiation. We don't want to negotiate through the press. I don't need to watch Senator Thune on TV in order to find out what he says he's offering. Just get in a room like adults do and we can talk this out."
Michigan's auto industry is the lifeblood of our economy. Whenever any Big 3 auto company invests millions of dollars to create new auto jobs in my state – that’s a good day for Michigan. This announcement solidifies Stellantis’ commitment to Michigan. bridgemi.com/business-wat...

President Trump’s Big Beautiful Bill is causing a health care crisis.
We want to have a conversation like adults and talk about health care.
A child care business owner. A retiree from Jackson. A clergy member from mid-Michigan. These are the health care stories Michiganders shared with me.

We are on the verge of a health care crisis, where over 15 million could lose health care and President Trump still refuses to negotiate to end the govt shutdown. But today, he celebrated a $20 billion taxpayer-funded bailout to his buddy in Argentina. abcnews.go.com/Internationa...

A clergy member in mid-Michigan told me that her employer provided insurance will go up next year. She said the plan for her and her husband will cost $2,244 MORE a year ($160 a month) for the same coverage in 2026. Share your story at: slotkin.senate.gov/letters
This is a common story. People still don’t know HOW MUCH they will pay, but know it is going to be more. A woman from Houghton wrote in and told me she was ONLY able to afford insurance because of the healthcare.gov tax credits and now is worried she will have to drop it. She received this letter.

Sharing a few of the messages I’ve received from Michiganders about how rising health care costs will impact them and their families.

This shouldn’t be a partisan issue. We must work together to help folks access the health care they need.

The Affordable Care Act is a lifeline for Michiganders like Alana. After being laid off, she was able to afford health care for her family while finding new work because of the ACA premium tax credits.

This is why we are fighting to make health insurance more affordable.
Several people wrote in about insurers leaving the healthcare.gov marketplace, which gives people fewer options. A man from Berkley sent me this letter he received from his provider that is leaving the marketplace.

Today is a day for celebration. After two years, the Israeli hostages are coming home and, with hope, the conflict and death can end on all sides. I remain hopeful this agreement can continue to build small ounces of trust that gets to a lasting peace for both the Israeli and Palestinian people.

A child care provider in Ypsilanti told me the group plan for her, her family and her small number of employees is going up $469 per month. She is thinking about dropping insurance entirely because she can’t afford it.

Our health care system is headed toward a crisis because of what this President has done on health care. And it’s going to cause everyone to either pay more or lose their health care. This includes people on private insurance who are getting their letters as we speak.
