The NYTimes is far from perfect, but I don't understand the need to make shit up.
In this case complaining that they aren't covering a story, when it's the second thing on the screen. And items 1, 3, 4, 5, & 6 are all also highly critical of the president.
It's literally every top story.

Extraordinarily weak (but very on brand) statement from Mamdani. The organizers of this protest call every Israeli a settler and a legitimate target of violence. We don't need to pretend this was about anything else, we just need to listen to what the organizers of this event are actually saying.

This is what happens when democratic norms erode and bigotry becomes mainstream. And when swastikas and nooses are reduced to “divisive” symbols, it is a reminder that every community targeted by hate is in this together.

This lesson — that nearly everyone acts in a self-interested manner and would gladly sacrifice a best friend if it helped them or their children — is useful. It impels me to act in manners that increase the odds of people not having to make these choices.

Because I know the choices that they'd make

Today is Səgd (ስግድ), an ancient holy day for the Ethiopian Jewish community. Read this lovely article about it, which includes memory, theological reflection, and a recipe.
The Sound of Səgd (ስግድ): Reclaiming Language, Memory, and Belonging
When I arrived in Israel from Ethiopia as a little girl, I learned quickly that language can build a home and it can unmake one.

I have to disagree on this approach, which I've seen advocated in multiple posts today.
The SA is NOT a beneficent organisation, they take the "army" part seriously, it's a charity the same way that Hamas is. People openly and publicly fund-raising for them deserve to be called out and ostracized.
Thank you for reminding me of my annual warning.

Don't support. But also don't harass kettle workers. They're mostly clueless, seeing it as a low-impact way to volunteer. You achieve nothing by stressing them out. Just keep your distance.
I know it's a tad early but I know those bitches with the buckets will be out soon. Don't gove them a penny. The volunteers may not know but the salvation army is no ally and actively combative and harmful to many queer minorities especially during the holiday season

I would extend this to posting reskeets, tweets, and TV interviews. All it does is expose their terribleness to more people while simultaneously training the algorithms that this is what people want to see more of.

STOP MAKING AWFUL PEOPLE FAMOUS!
don't reskeet book excerpts from terrible people, even to dunk on them or to hate-read.

You give prestige magazines clicks, and you encourage them to do this crap more.

Encourage terrible people to go to What Ever Happened To?? land

50501 is hiding the replies that are pointing out that this is an antisemitic conspiracy theory. What's being described here is the exact same type of donation ask I get from Democratic electeds and groups like EMILY'S List, SPLC, and ACLU multiple times a day. It's not shady. It's typical.

We have to remember how aberrant and fucked up this sort of nakedly partisan, reactionary posting is from official government agencies. This is the erosion of professionalism.

This is how they act in broad daylight in front of large audience, with cameras live broadcasting on national TV.

Imagine the outcome had this been late at night with the players out of uniform leaving a bar/club where they went to celebrate their win.
Yup. Texas cops. Austin PD used to do this move downtown to try and start shit.

Anyone who genuinely cares about sexual assault and abuse survivors cares about them *regardless* of their age. There is no one who cares about abused children but not abused adults, only people who used feigned care for children to oppress adults.

You’re upset about how Trump treated teen girls? Imagine how many teen girls we could have protected if we’d said that someone who speaks publicly about women the way that Trump does has no place in polite society.

The problem with such a list is that he spent decades insinuating himself into the social, arts, and philanthropic scenes, and spent huge amounts of time, effort, and money in order to hobnob with the goobersmoochers.

I am dismayed but not surprised to see how many people are not satisfied by the actual conspiracies revealed today, and feel that it's their duty to engage in the vilest of QAnon style antisemitism to make sure everyone knows who is *really* at fault.

just when you thought chameleons couldn't possibly get any cooler. I mean, just look at those feets!
A paper in Scientific Reports shows that chameleons have evolved a longer, coiled optic nerve that is likely to provide “slack” to reduce tension on the optic nerve during the extensive rotations characteristic of the chameleon eye. go.nature.com/3JTSgQ1 #evosky 🧪

If we could stop driving every other species on the planet to the brink of extinction for like 5 minutes, that would be great.
The American eel is an iconic species native to North America. Today it’s Endangered. Its numbers have plummeted to historic lows.

At #CITESCoP20, we will urge Parties to support Proposal 35, which would provide critical oversight to help prevent overexploitation and illegal trafficking of eels. 🌎

I wasn't going to comment on the ongoing budget crisis, bc it's not my thing, and I rely on my generally competent elected reps to negotiate a good deal on my behalf.
But since yesterday I've seen people frothing at the mouth, and a lot of it doesn't make sense to me and/or is dangerously wrong.

If you haven't read this essential book yet, it's not too late. Still highly relevant, arguably more so now than when it was written. #booksky
My book #Strongmen turns 5 today! The paperback edition, with a new epilogue on January 6, is now 4. The book built a large readership gradually and became a New York Times bestseller in Nov. 2024. Thank you to all who read it and share its warnings about what such leaders do to societies.
