This is a very good review of how complicated it is to sequester Russian funds. Surely Belgium is right to prefer the EU to launch a genuinely federal eurobond to finance Ukraine. Doubtless Trump could be inveigled into bullying Orban to lift his veto ?
The EU’s proposed Reparations Loan – using immobilised Russian assets to support Ukraine – raises major legal and financial questions.

Germany seems more willing to call out Russia - today the government is accusing Russia of a large scale cyber attack on air traffic security and for disinformation campaign during the federal elections earlier this year:

Deutschlandfunk doing nice work on exposing the US trips of AfD politicians; interesting shift of travel trips away from Russia to US. Can only hope BND (secret services) equally alert and efforts to declare AfD unconstitutional well grounded (that is difficult). Germany is key here.

The most shameful language point about school kids in the U.K. is not the number who speak English as a second language, but the number who don’t speak any language other than English.

Even more, the number of adults who don’t.

The clear takeaway from today is that Donald Trump is not unstoppable and you are not powerless.
Buttigieg on Indiana: "The big part of how Trumpism works is to make you feel totally disempowered. To make him feel inevitable. And yet the clear takeaway from this is he is not unstoppable and you are not without power."

Ha. This is why Boycott - a truly terrible person in all ways - was always in the team. Fans tearing their hair out in bored frustration, but the 1970/80s Windies were at least occasionally denied.

It's revealing about taboos around racism that the visceral bullying racism of schoolboy Farage cuts through while the much more consequential thinly veiled racism of adult Farage doesn't. Many people need that veil and flinch when it's removed. You can advocate racist policies but not say the words
column maybe coming on this but I don't hugely care about what 61-year-old Farage got up to at school? and I think that Fleet Street finally gunning for him is symptomatic of a culture where the gotcha/scoop factor matters so much that hidden past actions are seen as worse than current, public ones
Farage has been dismissing evidence of Russian ties to the Salisbury Novichok attack since 2018 🧐
