Is oil the only reason? Nah, they also want a war for war powers. But would they be doing it if there weren't so much oil? ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Just want to emphasize again that a hard ceiling is literally what enables the floor to be strong.
There's already a party that believes there should be no limits on how much wealth an individual can hoard, and it's the Republicans. No one wants Democrats to just offer a watered-down version of Republican positions! Also, "no ceiling" inherently makes a "strong floor" impossible.

It's amazing how so many billionaires - who have WAY more money than they could possibly need in 500 lifetimes - REALLY want to avoid paying small slivers of tax money to benefit a common good like social safety services for less fortunate countrymen within the society that made them billionaires.

if you ask students to list the causes of the Irish famine and they just say “the Irish are demonic” can you really not fail that kid?

and you know what? these students should also be judged, and judged harshly for this. running to the admins and state legislators and the press because you got a fairly earned failing grade on an assignment is and should be seen as a mark of extremely poor character. it makes you a very bad person.
the primary thing that TPUSA provides to young conservatives is a blueprint for weaponizing the abject cowardice of university administrators against individual teachers and instructors, and university admins should take a long look in the mirror and think about what that says about them
OU has put the professor here on administrative leave:

If the Venezuelan sailors were enemy combatants, then the 2nd strike is a war crime.

If the Venezuelan sailors weren’t enemy combatants, then both strikes are criminal murder.

It’s that simple.

One of my first journalism professors would give you a zero if you had even one error of fact. It happened to me. Sucked so much. He was one of the best professors I ever had, I took three more classes from him, and we’re still in touch

Here’s the TPUSA version of events at OU.

Not surprisingly, they lie about what happened — she wasn’t flunked for quoting the Bible; she never even quoted it — and accuse the instructor, whom they name, as being “mentally ill”

This was handed in for a PSYCH CLASS & when the prof said she didn't use empirical sources but rather submitted op-ed she whined about religious liberty + prof got suspended.

I was a *Religious Studies* major; in my time she would have been rightly BBQ'd had she dared to hand in this absolute drek.

You can tell that the instructor probably agonized over writing this message and even got a colleague to also review the material - as she knew a public outrage was a likely response and wanted to be overly cautious.
idk not to mention how very nuanced and normal the actual response here was

They called her out by name in their social media posts and called her "mentally ill" -- I bet she has a hundred angry emails by now, at the very least.
The other thing is that this is an instructor in graduate school, so no protections and even more consequences potentially to a career. I’m betting she’s getting threatening emails now too. All incredibly scary to someone new without support.

After years of struggling to find enough workers for some of the nation’s toughest lockups, the Federal Bureau of Prisons is facing a new challenge: Corrections officers are jumping ship for more lucrative jobs at ICE.

As Federal Prisons Run Low on Food and Toilet Paper, Corrections Officers Leave in Droves for ICE
Many of the problems the agency is facing now are not new, but staff and prisoners fear an exodus of officers could make life behind bars even worse.

This is how you end up in the ICC.
On the horrific news that Pete Hegseth ordered the killing of boat bombing survivors, remember: The Trump Murder Memo "authorizing" the strikes preemptively clears those carrying them out. That's unusual. And we still haven't heard from the commander who resigned:

"Anti-woke" is just seeking license to be an asshole.
Tim Walz: "Trump is like, 'this is language policing. You guys are woke.' Many times it's just about being decent to people and making them feel included. You can use that word, sure. But you shouldn't. And that's something that Donald Trump fails to realize."

Lol yes people in history have had MRIs they don't know what they're for - people whose brains are mushy enough they don't know what's happening
Walz on calling for Trump to release MRI results: "Here we got a guy on Thanksgiving where we spent time with our families, ate, played Yahtzee. This guy is apparently in a room ranting. It's not normal behavior. It's not healthy. Has anyone in history ever had an MRI & had no idea what it was for?"

We have spent more than 1,000 years trying to separate the awesome prosecutorial powers of the state from the personal whims and vendettas of the head of state.

Trump’s actions and ideology seek to reverse those gains.
