I observed this in 1990 when I was at uni with Private boarding school students. Without the structure & supervision they struggled to achieve.
Yes. I was involved with 2E gifted/learning difficulty children here. Even the 1s diagnosed weren't getting the help they needed from their main teacher. Now we don't even have a gifted programme to advocate for them & meet their needs. This was high socio-economic families.
I find it interesting that the current theories & evidence reveals massive complexity but the requirements for helping a child thrive are pretty simple. Security, love, trust, achievable challenge, people who understand & meet their needs. Unfortunately, AoNZ is failing on security of food & shelter
I too am retired. But I recently studied this stuff. There are parts of Piagets stuff which hold for white kids with highly educated parents. They dont hold for all ethnic groups & social classes. There is much more diversity & complexity than Piaget recognised.
Yes. After I burnt out in teaching I went & did a Masters in Child Psychology. It was really revealing. I found the evidence & theories for why the methods of teaching used by some schools worked & how the MoE were pushing debunked ideas.
Thank you. The 'no CGT' voters are winning that one.
The new theories & evidence suggests there are multiple cognitive, biological, social, emotions skills, abilities & environmetal.conditions that need to be achieved for each new thing a child is learning. Children who learn will have a mix of the precursor things but not necessarily all of them.
Stanford seems to rely heavily on cognitive theories & evidence. She ignores all the stuff which Dynamic Systems says about complexity & theories which account for diversity & multiple learning pathways.
The current theories & evidence fit much better with my own experience as a mum & teacher.
Piagets ideas where only tested on his own three children. His stages of child development are discredited & not used any more. The overarching theory commonly used is Dynamic Systems Theory. Beyond that there are very specific theories & evidence depending on what area is being discussed
Can you post a link to that one. I cant find it.
All it requires is Bluetooth headphones. It isnt a huge expense.

There are certain opinions that cause me to instantly block someone. I dont bother checking profiles or previous posts if someone expresses some sentiments.
My husband drives a truck from mid Canterbury to Christchurch most weeks. He says he regularly sees truck drivers holding their phone.
Thankfully he has handsfree set up.
Teachers are going to burnout & leave. Replacing a math curriculum every year is stupid. This is why she shouldnt have rushed the timeline when she was appointed Minister of Education.
I am concerned this means more students will be being taught knowledge that is too advanced for them. Why make maths harder when so many are already not achieving at the required level. Who has decided that it is realistic for students to learn this stuff earlier?
We need both. Trucks were essential after the Kaikoura earthquakes.
Rail also takes time to get going again after a storm as rails must be checked

As for truckdrivers stuck at serious crash sites surely they could carry a porta potty, toilet tent, food & sleeping bag

News that the ChCh terrorist can be called as a witness at the coronial inquest will be, unsurprisingly, profoundly distressing for the Muslim community in NZ, and esp. those directly impacted by the March 2019 violence. Studied some Telegram content related to this incident, & individual today.

Hello Europeans, Canadians, Mexicans, Australians, New Zealanders, Japanese, South Koreans, Asians and all others nationalities. 👋

Can you please do the world a favor and just:

Boycott the USA

Divest from the USA

Boycott Israel

Abandon Israel

Cut all ties to Israel

Dump the USA
Of all the housing charts not made by MMI, this one is my favourite. It shows how, despite rhetoric, housing shortages aren't a global phenomenon, but they do seem to be an Anglo-American one.

New Zealand sent up satellites into space and our PM insists they won't be exploited by Israel "because there are rules against that".
Also Judith Collins is our "Space Minister".

conservative governments are so fucking embarrassing.

Protesters: NZ space launches are enabling genocide

Judith Collins: "Perfectly comfortable" with the ethics and work of the industry, the protesters "live in another world"

1 News: Yeah, actually, we OIAd that shit and the human rights abuse warnings about the launches were there from the start
