For DECADES now we have inflated the egos of techbros into the sky & beyond.

We elevated them as geniuses & visionaries. It's our job now to deflate those egos & bring these jerks to heel. Knowing how to code or get VC funding does not mean you know anything IMPORTANT about how the world works

This one and NOAA really hit home.

There is no possible way Musk’s cadre of young’uns has the first clue about how complex either the aviation system or the climate system are. This is like handing a six year old the keys and saying, “You drive for a while, I’m going to take a nap in the back."

And after their paper run, they can deliver phone books!

Simeon Brown tells young jobseekers to “get a paper run” on RNZ this morning 🙀

He is so out of touch, he thinks neighbourhoods still get a daily newspaper delivered

Wow, that's so recent! I'm 46 and we had the 7 digit number plus 3 digit area code in the US as far as I can remember.

It’s great for giving you beautiful tableware, less great for solving the “too much hobby clutter” problem 😭

Yeah same with my pots. They just keep exploding into mugs and vases and bowls.

Hope no one in my family wants to enjoy a meal.

I just put my spider plants in pots and hope they grow.

As a potter, this works to a point. And then people start hiding from you 😳

Anyway this is a good time to note that you can now register for the NZAS conference on 26 November where we intend to spend a lot of time talking about science for the public good. $25 for non-members, free for members (code in your email).

The problem with having a crafting hobby is you will have THINGS.

Bits of things, big specialized things, tiny bags of hard to get things, drawers of tools just for the things, half-completed things, duplicates of things you ordered because you forgot you already had those things, SO MANY THINGS

It’s ironic that this happens the day after the Luxon Govt announced it will make the climate crisis worse by letting the dairy industry off the hook for its superheating methane emissions.

Thank you! I will be at Parnell Market on 14 December to sell them!

My pots have been through the first firing 🎉
Many pots in a white clay and many in a red clay on a dining room table. Many mugs in red and white clay. On a dining room table with a floral tablecloth Close up of a red pot with pottery snails on it. Close up of some big mushroom pots.

Sending you both all the good wishes 💗

Oh I assumed you meant Aotearoa. Wonder when they got longer numbers here . . .
narwhallibrarian.bsky.social
How long did that last? When I was a kid we had 7 digit and long distance required a 3 digit area code.

269-6984 was my best friend's number.

Nonzero chance I could call it and get her mom on the phone.

If anyone needs me I will be in the museum, lying down next to the bog bodies.
Did people really memorize phone numbers before cell phones, or is that just a movie thing?
2? Questions
I was watching some old shows from the 90s and noticed people would just dial numbers from memory - like they'd call their friends or family without looking anything up.
Made me wonder if that was actually normal back then? Did people genuinely have all their important numbers memorized, or did most folks keep a little address book or written list nearby?

What the actual fuck, YouTube.
It decided to automatically replace my own voice with AI bot voice, without my consent. What is the point of this shit.

Picking up tomorrow afternoon!

Yeah sometimes it looks like my friend took a picture with their Mom but then it turns out the Mom is my friend and the young one is the kid who used to be a baby . . . ?

And some of the kids I knew are having babies of their own and it isn't a scandal, but just . . . normal?

Oh no, terrible news everyone . . .

I have reached an age where I when I am forced to check Facebook for something or other, I can no longer tell which pictures are my friends and relatives and which are their adult children.

Sigh.
