Apologies if I misinterpreted. I read “he never supported single payer as a candidate or as President” to suggest he flatly didn’t support it. During ACA negotiations he pushed for the public option as a pathway to single payer. www.theatlantic.com/politics/201...

Dems had a supermajority for like 10 mins, plus he had dem defectors who didn’t want single payer. The public opinion was on the table for a while but he couldn’t get enough votes for that either.
