Back home for the first time since we buried Tiger. Sending some extra hugs to those who've similarly lost their fur babies in the last year and who feel their absence every single day. 🤍💔

A sad irony in Washington, D.C., where West Virginia National Guardsmen were shot today. Six days ago, a court ruled their deployment was illegal, but stayed the order pending appeal. My heart goes out to these public servants and their families. oag.dc.gov/sites/defaul...

Praying that they both pull through. ❤️‍🩹🤍

These National Guard members didn't choose to be deployed to DC, where they were made to be part of an unnecessary, costly political stunt. They should be celebrating Thanksgiving with their families, not hanging onto their lives in hospital beds.

I still can't believe he's been gone for more than 11 years now.
In some of the darkest times for our region, I've grounded myself in investing in the young leaders who will change this. That's what we're doing with the Bassem Sabry Fellowship at @timep.bsky.social.

If you have 2 minutes today, don't miss these beautiful words from @dalezzat.bsky.social.
"Bassem believed that young people across the Arab world deserved to own their power, tell their stories, and write their narratives."

Who was Bassem Sabry? Get to know the late Egyptian political commentator & writer through the words of his friend @dalezzat.bsky.social: youtu.be/Q72e6vd3H1Y?...

We often hear about the stories of Egypt's political prisoners, but what about the loved ones who visit them behind bars?

Don't miss my @timep.bsky.social colleague Dina's important new analysis bringing us stories on the emotional and financial cost of prison visits.
NEW: In Egypt, the impact of imprisonment extends to the entire family. Presenting a deep dive into prison visits, TIMEP nonresident fellow Dina Kamel examines the financial and psychological strain on those visiting their loved ones behind bars.

Absolutely insane news from Egypt, where award-winning human rights lawyer Mohamed el-Baqer has had his terrorism designation renewed for another five years.

Mohamed was pardoned by Sisi in July 2023 after being prosecuted and after serving jail time for his work as a lawyer.

It's been 14 years since Egypt's riot police and security forces brutally attacked a sit-in leading to clashes that would last days, intentionally shot at protesters' eyes, and used teargas without limit.

Thinking of those we lost and those who bore witness: Mohamed Mahmoud.

BIG NEWS! The Trump admin has been ordered to delay its termination of TPS for Syria while the case continues to be heard in crt. Without today's decision, thousands would have lost their legal status and work authorization this Friday, and may have been forced to return to Syria.
