This is a really appalling editorial error on BBC Question Time

"Apparently one in three children don't speak English as a first language, why does this matter?"

Chair says "have English as a second language"

Caption changes the meaning entirely

Great thread.
The European Union has triggered Article 122 to indefinitely immobilise the assets of the Russian Central Bank, worth a whopping €210 billion.

I explain what just happened and why this is such a big deal for Europeans.

🧵 Long thread.

I only recently listened to this extraordinary 10 part podcast - Sergei and the Westminster Spy Ring by @peterjukes.bsky.social and @carolecadwalla.bsky.social . It’s gripping, chilling, and deeply disturbing. The facts of Russian intrusion into UK politics laid bare, in horrifying fashion.
Rory Stewart and Alistair Campbell @alastaircampbell2.bsky.social spell out what needs to happen - the same demand we’ve made for years.

We need a real, independent inquiry 🧵

You know I do sometimes wonder exactly when this 'progressive age' was in education that self-styled 'traditionalists' rail against because surely if it was such a disaster we'd see it in exam results? I've been in education for 30+ years and imo very little has massively changed. 1/3

What a speech! I wish someone in the UK would do similar on Boris Johnson and/or Nigel Farage, particularly focusing on what Farage was actually doing on Brexit night (there will be some who know, and records that could be called in by an inquiry.)
Sen. Mark Kelly demonstrates tremendous courage and tenacity as he speaks the truth about the illegitimate occupant in the Oval Office. 🔥🔥🔥

Watched BBC 6 o clock news. Just a completely unserious broadcast. Chris Mason, acting like a children's entertainer, giving a prolonged impenetrable editorial. Not a whiff of informative content about the Budget or what it means for the country. Just playschool blah blah bollocks.

BBC long since gave up all pretence of impartiality & journalistic credibility to be a pro right wing, anti centre/left broadcaster..

Remember the cosey love in’s between Johnson and a gushing Kuenssberg 🤢

Now it’s Reform they want in & Labour out.. they no longer report news.. they create it❗️
The absolute state of the BBC news just now - which seems determined to drag the government down over the budget.

Where was all this attention to minute detail and concern for absolute accuracy when the Tories were lying their way through their chaotic reign for 14 years? It's frankly absurd.
For all the focus on its supposed “left wing bias”, the BBC’s heavy coverage of Rachel Reeves Budget "lies" shows how its political coverage is still largely led by the right-wing press

That is a huge drop. Huge.

Starmer will now play the 'look-what-we-achieved' politics of this brilliantly, everyone will calm down, sensible immigration policies will emerge, and Farage will disappear.

Narrator: 'Meanwhile on Planet Earth....'
NEW: Net migration falls sharply to 204,000 in the year to June.

That’s a fall from 649,000 in the year to June 2024. It is a drop of nearly 80% from its 2023 peak.
