A CanCon thread of books I've read!

1. Part Time Girl by @adriaan.braevitae.com. I was gripped throughout this YA story. A super-relatable teen MC trying to do the right thing while dealing with identity challenges and mysterious magical threats. Loved the ending. 💖 braevitae.com/w/parttimegirl

I love this series so much! Highly recommend.
My favourite series of the year, by @kristawalshauthor.bsky.social.

Each character felt real, uniquely responding to the relentless trials & trauma of magic turned against them.

The world felt real, too: set in modern-day #Ottawa, complete with federal government bureaucracy.

Recommended!

Okay, because I need to try and re-spark some writing community joy after… *gestures at everything* how about a revisit on a way you can absolutely support authors you love for zero dollars: by dropping a low-stress, three-sentence review somewhere.

This is the second time in two days my debut novel has popped up unexpectedly -- hello baby, I still love you. <3 Look at your pretty finalist seal. Look how nice.
“Things that are and are not, she thinks, and the dog is a snake.”

In this fantastic and fantastical debut, @cjlavigne.com concocts a wondrous realm overlaying a city that brims with civic workers and pigeons.

This is how it goes
you bowing
as your hand takes mine
one step forward

you smiling
one part chivalrous
two parts mischievous
as the dance gets underway

and me
with my two left feet
stepping sideways off the cliff
as my heart soars

My book Canada's Main Street: The Epic Story of The Trans-Canada Highway was released this year.
It is a great read and even my pupper Berton loves it.

Find it in most bookstores and online (as well as your local library) 👇

Hi. I'm launching a wee lil' Patreon for my political comedy content tomorrow. I'd love for you to keep an eye out for it.

I was gonna make a bigger speech than this, but it felt weird, so I'll keep it as simple as that! See you tomorrow! ❤️

Michelle Branch, "Everywhere"

Big fan of the yell-sing "EV-REE-where to MEEE" chorus

'Cause you're everywhere to me
And when I close my eyes it's you I see
You're everything I know
That makes me believe
I'm not alone

No argument here but in case you are in need of more great Christmas music that hasn’t been played to death, a thread:
Not that there was ever a question but Darlene Love’s Christmas (baby please come home) is the greatest Christmas song from the great Christmas record.
Speaking of, it’s time to start the season by the switching of records on my Ronettes shrine.

on a distant world
she runs fingers

bustling sidewalks
looming deadlines
and endless anxiety
as she careened
toward empty #goals

until that fateful day
she slipped and fell
into an opportunity
(or a transport ship)
for a different life

This was such a lovely thing to read today. 💙 Made my day. Don't be afraid to tell people you enjoy their stories! This was the book of my heart, and it means a lot to me that it's out there being read. 🥰

Thanks @adriaan.braevitae.com!
Fortune's Shadow: Having all your wishes come true can be a dangerous thing!

This one's been on my TBR since Can*Con. I'm so glad I made the time to read it! I love all the characters in this little town, and the ending is *chef's kiss* (though I cried)

This is a fab little book for people who work on comics—it has helped me when I proofread for IDW—but, as I said when it first came out, I also think readers of comics would find it just as interesting! I certainly found it interesting as I copyedited it, and that was before I got the IDW gig!
The Proofreader’s Guide to Comic Book Style came out a year ago today!

To celebrate my first book birthday, I’m running a 20% sale on all orders on comicbookstyle.com now through Black Friday with the code BIRTHDAY

The Great Old One whimpers, vast limbs twitching in unease. What visions can terrify such an entity?

An image forms in the machine.
