Hi! I’m a tall queer guy who writes (mostly) shorter queer things, though novels keep happening somehow. Mostly I tell tales that exist somewhere in the Venn of spec-fic, romance, and YA, but always queer.

I’m a huge fan of chosen families and insistent queer history.

Local #Ottawa Folk, if you’re looking for my titles in print for the holidays, especially "Dogs Don’t Break Hearts" or "Stuck With You" (hi-lo queer YA books for queerlings in your life), @octopusbooks.ca will order them for you. They rock, and supporting indie bookstore = joy.

This discussion was perennial in the bookstore at Christmas time. The number of parents who would say, "Well, they really love reading X, but I want them to read Y…"

Please just let them read what they’re loving. They’ll spread out to new things their own (or won’t, also fine)!
Why does book choice matter?

Evidence shows that allowing children to choose books helps them to read more!

Absurd deal from one of the consistently best publishers in the business.

You could pick up pretty much anything & get a good read out of it but can I again suggest as many as people as possible buy A Mourning Coat by Alex Jeffers, the single most criminally under-read SFF book of the past 2 years.
📚 50% off ebooks because capitalism i guess
use code UGHFINE
or you could just buy them! up to you 📚

Watching the new season of #StrangerThings (minor spoiler ahed) and in the first episode Mike tells his little sister—who says she’s got an invisible friend/is seeing someone who says there are monsters that eat kids—something he knows to be true, and he’s all, "Monsters aren’t real, Holly!"

Boo.

Want to support me without spending a dime? Request my books at your library! The library pays for their copy so I still get paid and you get to read it for free! Best part, others can enjoy it after you! 🌈📚 #booksky

A *huge* vaccine victory. I've been writing on this for years; Australia has seen remarkable progress in cervical cancer prevention with the HPV vaccine. I love seeing science triumph like this.
Australia recorded ZERO cases of cervical cancer in women under 25 for the first time since they started tracking the cancer in the 80s.

This is the power of vaccines.

The HPV vaccine is extremely effective at preventing cancer.

Viruses can be oncogenic. Get your vaccines and protect yourself!
newsGP - Australia set for world-first cervical cancer elimination
Vaccination programs have played a key role, and GPs remain ‘instrumental’ in boosting screening rates to reach the 2035 target.

I’m trying to find the right words for that mix of “hey, another queer thing (often the first of its kind) and I’m once again at best ambivalent” but… like so many other times, can’t.

Because I know no matter how clear or carefully I try to talk about it, people will react to things I never said.
