My first pro sale ever was to On Spec, a full decade ago. I've got a copy of the cheque Diane Walton sent me framed downstairs, as a reminder of how it felt to know I was meant to be a professional author.

The legacy of On Spec is so much bigger than that, but it's what they'll always mean to me.
