This tree looks like it belongs in a fairy tale. It's an Amur maple (potentially invasive in some places). I don't know what's going on with that remarkable bark (can a tree have that many galls?).

I don't know why the snow melted in strips like that (something to do with its last mowing?), but I like the crosswise strips of light and shadow.

An Apollo experiment in 1969 proved that the moon is moving farther away from the earth by about 1 1/2 inches a year. At the time of the first Thanksgiving the moon was 50 feet closer to us than it is today.
