To clarify: The tree is the memorial to Pierce, not the arboretum. The arboretum is named for Jesse H. and Beulah Chanley Cox.

The tree is in the arboretum at IU Bloomington, a memorial to James Pierce (1900-1983). Pierce played football at IU and later starred in the fourth Tarzan film. He was married for 44 years to Edgar Rice Burroughs's daughter Joan.
