Yes, this!
🧵I want more electeds to push back hard on the idea that funding the ballroom with "donations" somehow makes it OK.

Funding an addition to the White House with private donations is WORSE than taxpayer funding. We should be MORE angry because of this, not less. 1/3

So true. There was a big jump from one version to the next. Same thing happening now with the new Photoshop. I don’t like it and don’t want to learn the new AI features, so I went back to PS2024.
That is exactly how I got on the subscription model in 2023, in the middle of illustrating final art for a picture book. In the twelve years since, I have paid way more money to keep the subscription than I would have to buy the programs I need.

Author and filmmaker Justine Bateman on generative AI
This.
Artists struggle to survive making art but are supposed to give it to AI companies for free so they can thrive and also destroy the planet with their massive energy usage?
That’s just wrong.
Pay artists.
Give artists credit for their work.
Do not steal art.
Today is a day when arts degrees are worthless, but the product of those degrees is so valuable it would kill an entire industry if they were made to pay for it.
Nick Clegg says asking artists for use permission would ‘kill’ the AI industry
I do this too! And then almost always miss #kidlitchat and #kidlitartchat 🫠

I’m old enough to remember the outrage when Nancy Reagan replaced the White House china.
THIS is insane.
It looks even worse by video 😢
Be creative. Then take a break if you need one so you can be creative again.
Friendly reminder that creative work drains you in a way that 'normal' work doesn't so it's totally cool and necessary to have (what seems to be) inordinately longer breaks and/or weird ways of refuelling.

This goes extra if you're a neurodivergent sort.
This is a good question.
Who is saying yes to this? Don't the citizens of Washington get a say whether they now have to host a bunch of nuclear reactors at an incalculable risk to their safety and that do not benefit them at all?
Amazon has released the first images of its small modular nuclear reactors planned for Washington state.

Legendary Final Fantasy Composer Nobuo Uematsu says he’s never used generative AI, and never will.

RT of the front page of the Indiana student newspaper, updating an earlier tweet.

No alt text, but it's an image of the digital front page of the paper, with CENSORED in red. Below that, the subhead reads "This is not about print. This is about a breach of editorial independence."
Administrators at Indiana University baselessly fired the student media director and ordered the student paper to cease its print edition, so it'd sure be a shame if this excellent digital front page were to be widely shared today

If Republicans don’t extend health care subsidies, the uninsurance rate for young adults will go up 25%. Democrats are holding the line to make sure that doesn’t happen.

It’s the 16th day of this shutdown. It’s time for Republicans to open the gov’t and protect health care.

Andrew, we're voting you off the island and back to the suburbs.

Our new ad just aired during Survivor.
No.
Nope.
No thank you.
Didn’t like Microsoft before.
Dislike Microsoft even more now.
Please get out of here with your “Let’s put AI in every-f*ing-thing!” mentality.*
Not surprised, but still.
UGH.
(* Also applies to all the other companies putting AI in everything. Just f*ing stop already.)
This is the future of Windows. Microsoft wants to rewrite Windows to turn computers into AI PCs that you talk to. It's now bringing AI features to all Windows 11 PCs today, in a bid to convince you to talk to your PC and let AI control it. Full details 👇 www.theverge.com/news/799768/...

The Pentagon just stripped reporters of their credentials for refusing to sign a policy over its "implicit threat of criminalizing national security reporting." It’s a direct strike at the free press. Democracy is in danger when the government controls who can ask questions.

"What can we even do?"

For those already doing things, the answer is keep going.

For those who aren't doing anything, the answer is pick a thing to do.

There's no one magic "to do" item that will fix everything immediately, even though that's what the question often hopes for.

Keep doing.
