Bowler hats were originally a working class item of headwear. A protective item for gamekeepers who didn’t want to get bashed by tree branches
I agree, but pretty much everything is tribalistic. Sport, politics, culture
To be fair to religion, we’ve no idea whether those battles would have happened anyway. It’s likely most would have just picked a different thing to fight about
I really hope someone asks me to do this one day
The secret to drawing a perfect circle!!🤫
The AI bubble bursting will be like when the dot-com bubble burst. There’s still loads and loads of dot-coms afterwards and they are even larger than the ones before

it's kinda weird that all the software i am expected to use for work are all written by distributed teams, go, python, postgres, linux, chrome, k8s etc

and despite being told "the best teams work in an office together" i don't know of any software i use that's actually written that way
The first 5 minutes of Bad Guys is one of the best musical openings of a film ever
The type of people who hate HR are the type of people who get in trouble with HR a lot
The union is only there to protect the union. They will only defend your rights as far as is good for the union. No union would ever harm itself for the benefit of a member
I like how three of the horsepowers are roughly the same, and then one is suddenly an order of magnitude bigger
I’m starting to suspect that in 100 years time it’ll turn out that everyone is autistic and “normal” people are just those who’ve been most aggressively hiding it, or who are closeted about it
My dearest wish is to be able to buy slightly faster versions of the iPhone SE every two years for the rest of my life

That feels like it could apply to a large part of modern political discourse
In Budapest they have beer huts next to the playgrounds. You can take your beer into the playground in a plastic glass. It’s probably the pinnacle of civilisation
I played for the city under x Rugby team and was always one of the bigger boys, but we didn’t play often enough that I knew all the other players. A new boy came to have a go, but no one told me he was new. I tackled him properly in training and dislocated his knee. Still feel bad about it
I remember at primary school we had do some cutting out felt and glueing it, so I made a Count Duckula.

It’s the one thing from my childhood I wish I still had. I did a really good job of that. And it would be quite retro cool now
If we solved our dependency on oil, a lot of very rich people would suddenly become poor people.
I’ve only just realised how much Kylo Ren looks like Snape
I’m reading Pratchett chronologically as well, but started from the beginning as I couldn’t exactly remember which ones I’d read before. I’m just finishing Mort now. I’m slightly slowed by the fact that I feel I have to buy them in order from charity shops. Makes it feel like Fate has a say in it
Gin is just middle-class vodka for people who don’t like to admit they have a drinking problem (and I say that as a gin-drinker)
HOLMES: I can tell what kind of fruit is going to grow there
WATSON: How on earth can you manage that?
HOLMES: It’s a lemon tree my dear Watson
If I remember from her autobiography, VCM did some standup comedy when she was very young. This might be from then

The recruitment process is a form of marketing that targets the exact kind of person you want working for you.

There’s loads of companies I haven’t even bothered applying to because friends had a bad experience interviewing there
Astral are doing such good stuff right now that getting rejected by them feels CV-worthy.
