Cynicism is corrosive to democracy. We're becoming more cynical, as a society, and that's why we're sliding into authoritarianism. We don't believe things can be better, so we don't demand it, and things get worse.

I have a cousin who is a writer; she's probably the best option. Even then, I wouldn't say she (or anyone) knows me well enough to do the job properly. And I certainly ain't doing it myself.
