This is not something I expected to hear. I glanced over it thinking it was a shallow gimmick.

A pleasant surprise!

I can't even find the source of the latest videogames art discourse.

My first paid game translation.
Someone else stole the credit, though.
The horrible double-width font gives me hives.
Esteemed action RPG Terranigma was out 30 years ago (1995)!🌍 The last Quintet title after Soul Blazer and Illusion of Gaia dealing in life, sacrifice, and philosophy. Set in the underworld, a brave hero is tasked to resurrect the Earth above...

Does it take much direct inspiration from Rogue. The big roguelikes as they were in early '00s (ADOM has been cited a lot in interviews) seem more influential.

Fuck this guy, etc. But also, let's make it abundantly clear that this is just a symptom of a larger problem; the video game industry does not view games as culture. It is merely commerce to be repackaged, resold and replaced. Forever.

I will say this: a lot of new folks are clinging to a nostalgia for ‘getting a publisher’ as a marker of validation, of being a ‘real game’.

And I’m here to tell you that’s bollocks. They need you more than you need them. If they can provide a service, awesome, but you hold the means of production.

A glitch may occur in Super Mario Galaxy when played on a Nintendo Switch 2 whereby Mario will get stuck in freefall in the tunnel in Gateway Galaxy. The usual failsafe that would kill Mario for falling too long does not activate here, so Mario will tumble forever and never die.
The Boomers continue to get older/die off. You can't age into being a boomer.

Happy that Dave likes my project but also it’s gotten even weirder in the past week, and I haven’t even put in the real weird stuff yet.
Been playing a build of the game @threeohfour.bsky.social is putting together.

He's only been in production for about 3 months and I'm already blown away.

This is shaping up to be one of the most delightfully weird games Wadjet Eye has ever made.
I first encountered Neural Nets at university in 2002. The lecturer had a quite successful project using NNs to detect Parkinson tremors vs conscious input for motorised wheelchairs.

No manufacturers were interested in it, and as far as I'm aware it never went anywhere further.
current "popular" models I should say.

There are niche uses of Neural Networks that have no direct relationship to the trendy LLMs other than their mutual use of matrix multiplication.
The key fallacy of the quoted statement is that anything is the idea that any of this is "new".

The current models have developed incrementally over decades, and there's no sign of any rapid growth despite trillions of dollars sunk into it.

While this may be obvious to some players, Cataquacks resemble Wiggler segments that have come to life. This is likely intentional due to them originating in Gelato Beach in Super Mario Sunshine, where the antagonist is a Wiggler.

Seeing game devs take a "the customer is always right" approach to feedback is so sad because like I get it from a PR perspective, but...

1) The customer is always wrong

2) Your customers are gamers, so they're twice as wrong

Model of Geli from corru.observer

I did not expect saving an alien robot secretary in a turn-based action section of a game to go as incredibly hard as it did in this game.

Imagine, you are buzzing after the last sip of your third Kim Crawford sauvignon blanc. You just met a lovely retiree whose daughter-in-law is going to phone you about the condo in Hallandale. You walk up to my tent, I smile at you. I have Golgotha loaded up in Classic.

I'd forgotten I ever posted it tbh. Even though it's probably better than the wordier version on cohost.
