I had a similar issue with the desert section. The game just about lost me when it funneled me into the single possible path, with the slippery sandstone slope that felt completely disconnected from the rest of the games physics.

Sadly there are multiple new conspiracy theories (mostly just rehashes of old ones) that involve taking quotes from him out of context and/or overstating his influence.
